Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

Same here. Advertised as 99 per night at the days inn in flatwoods wv. They took 280 from my account. Got to the hotel and although they had a reservation for me, the hotel informed me that getaroom booked with a MasterCard and i had to have that card to pay for the room. So i had to use my debit card again to pay for the same room at 75 a night. This was june 11th. They sent me an email Thursday July 28th telling me that a refund had been processed and should take 3 to 5 business days to post to my account. Way passed 5 business days and they won’t return my email or calls. Filed a complaint with the FTC and have documented everything.

Similar problems. Total much higher than expected after the $200+ fees taxes were added on when I got my confirmation. It wasn’t clear to me when booking that the 2 rooms (aprox $800) were nonrefundable until I saw the confirmation. As soon as I received the confirmation email I called 2x to cancel I was told I couldn’t cancel I called right back and asked to speak to a manager and was told I couldn’t and the answer would be the same. I said I can’t except this and was hung up on. I called the hotel and they said there’s nothing they could do. I sent many emails to get a room and no replies. I sent emails to Whyndom hotels. I can’t go now due to Covid 19 and seriously need my money back!!!!I This has called me so much stress!!! I actually booked the reservation in my husband’s name and he is furious with me. Please help me.

Exactly the same situation here. Called the hotel (Doubletree) and never once thought we were talking to a 3rd party nor was the fact ever disclosed. Months pass then Covid-19 caused mass cancellations. Call the same direct number for the Doubletree hoteland am told all cancellation fees and terms were waived due to Covid but we would have to contact GetaRoom.com “as they held the money”. Truly the first time we have ever heard of the company. I do an email search as I say every email I send or receive and there’s nothing from the comapny, even in the 2+ years of SPAM and deleted emails retained. So I contact GetARoom the same day in March and it took until mid June and hours upon hours of letters, phone calls, and follow-ups to get our money refunded. All told 11 separate promises over 3 months to refund our credit card by GetAroom.com. After the first 3 failed promises as 45 days into the ordeal (ample time for a 3x promised credit to be processed) I disputed the charge with Citibank THEN GetaRoom.com immediately responded that I failed to adhere to their cancellation policy despite all the while telling me three times a credit was on the way. Only after going on a mini-crusade on sites like TrustPilot (read that site, hundreds saying the same) and 8 (Eight!) MORE promises of a refund, did funds actually appear on our card. I hope you bankrupt them. Extremely deceptive to the point I don’t see how it can possibly be legal.

Same situation on my end. I thought I was booking directly with the hotel, but it was actually through getaroom and only realized when I got their confirmation email.

  5. Melanie Mead says:

I was scammed also. I thought I was speaking to the hotel directly. I called them because my company gets a special corporate rate and asked specifically for that. I was never told I was speaking to a third party. I just called the hotel to change my reservation due to the event I was going to be being rescheduled due to covid. They told me they couldn’t change it because I booked through Priceline. I was shocked and confused. I called Priceline and they told me I booked through get a room…again shocked because I had no idea. Upon finally reaching get a room I explained my situation and was told there were no changes or refunds. I am not happy and they are lying to people about who they are speaking to!

My wife and I experienced the same basic issues as with most people within the comments section here. We visited Las Vegas on the MLK holiday weekend in 2020 and deceptively booked a room through Getaroom.com. Please add us to the list.

  7. Letha King says:

I booked a room through them because they offered a better rate, but what they did not disclose during the process was their $38.00 fee. I tried to get the room cancelled immediately after I saw that fee to no avail. Due to COVID-19 I had to cancel the room anyway and requested my refund. They are not responsive to my emails or phone calls. They keep saying the same old thing about providing an update that never comes. This is a sham and I want my money back. Please add me to the lawsuit!

  8. Rob says:

I also thought I had booked through the hotel, due to Covid-19 I called to cancel. They said it was Priceline that I was booked with, I called Priceline only to be told it was their sister company Get-A-Room. After numerous calls I was able to obtain my reservation # but was told they would review to see if I am getting refund. I was able to cancel online only after I obtained my reservation # still waiting on my refund

  9. Nichole farner says:

I booked a room through what I thought was the comfort inn in antioch ca and prepaid it at that but then found out the reservation ended up getting booked for the comfort suits in Antioch tn. So I asked them to please cancel that reservation do to me not living un tn.. they said they would refund me bk the 436.37 thay said the processed my full refund on the 13 of this. Month april and it is now the 23 and no refund yet. . How do I get my money bk from them I did not know it was even a third party that booked it I thought it was the actual hotel

    1. Nichole Farner says:

So please add me to the act thank you

  10. JAMES GRAHAM says:

My experience mirrors everyone else’s here, I booked a room in which I thought was directly with the hotel only to find out later when I had to cancel that it through get a room in which they purposely deceived me into booking with them AND jacked the price up. If it wasn’t for the pandemic situation, I would have never received a dime back. Took an act of god to get a refund after bashing them on reviews. I got my refund but the fact that they deceive you and try to steal your hard earned cash is disgusting and I’ve made it a mission to spread this information far and wide. I’ve filed a complaint with the BBB as everyone else should. The sooner this place is out of business the better! Please add me to this suit as I would love to see this criminal company out of business!
