Hubble Contacts Prescription Verification Settlement Overview:
- Who: Vision Path d/b/a Hubble Contacts will reportedly pay $3.5 million as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.
- Why: The FTC charged Hubble with illegally selling customers contact lenses that did not match their prescriptions.
- Where: The settlement is pending in Washington D.C. federal court.
Vision Path d/b/a Hubble Contacts will reportedly pay $3.5 million to settle allegations that the online contacts company sent customers lenses that did not match their prescriptions.
The proposed settlement will resolve Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charges that Hubble violated the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act (FCLCA) and the Contact Lens Rule, which require sellers of contact lenses to only sell lenses according to the customer’s verified prescription.
Contact Lens Prescription Laws
The FCLCA and the Contact Lens Rule require contact lens sellers to obtain prescription information and sell contacts in accordance with the prescription. If the prescription information is not presented to the seller, the contact lens seller must verify the request with the patient’s prescriber.
The request, which can be made by phone, fax or email, must include specific information, including the patient’s full name and address and the contact lens power, manufacturer and base curve. Eight hours after making the request, the contact lens seller can legally sell the contact lenses unless the prescriber communicates that the prescription is not valid.
FTC: Hubble Created Barriers to Prescription Verification
Hubble sells its own brand of daily contact lenses through its website and uses targeted social media and television advertising to market its lenses.
The FTC claims that Hubble improperly substituted its own brand of contact lenses for those originally prescribed by customers’ eye care practitioners. Hubble also allegedly misled customers into believing it would verify prescription information with customers’ eye care practitioners to ensure they received lenses with their proper prescription.
In reality, Hubble allegedly used verification practices that made it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for prescribers to deny the verification if the prescription was not correct. Hubble allegedly often sent incomprehensible verification messages to prescribers. When they failed to respond to the verification request within eight business hours, Hubble allegedly treated the customer’s order as passively verified.
If the Hubble settlement is approved, Hubble will pay $2 million in redress and a $1.5 million civil penalty. Hubble will also be prohibited from selling contact lenses without first confirming customers’ prescription information with their eye care practitioner.

I can’t even believe this company still exists and is able to sell its products! I’m now experiencing blindness in one eye and near blind in the other all from 4 pairs in 4 days. Changed as suggested.
Is there currently a lawsuit against Hubble concerning their contact lenses? I ordered contacts from them a few weeks ago and wore them for a couple of weeks until I started experiencing irritation and dryness in my eyes, which prompted me to purchase eye drops. After reading some negative reviews online, I found out about a lawsuit. I contacted Hubble for assistance, and they offered to send me another 12-pack. However, I expressed my concerns about potentially experiencing the same issue again with the new batch and requested a refund. The representative informed me that they couldn’t help and suggested I reach out to Johnson & Johnson, the manufacturer. However, I didn’t buy my contacts from J&J; I purchased them from Hubble, unless Hubble sources them from J&J. Unfortunately, the email they provided was undeliverable.
Hubble contacts caused me to have pain swelling and inflammation in my eye and now I need surgery because it messed up my retina and I lost vision.
Same! Now I need to know what they plan to pay to help me Fix my eyes! 😩
I used Hubble contacts for over 2 years, and since using them, my eyesight has gotten worse. How can I join the lawsuit, I’m a late comer.
I’ve used Hubble contacts I still have my order # how do I get on the list for this lawsuit
I have been receiving Hubble lens without an updated exam for years. Went to get an exam finally and Hubble lens damaged my eye so badly I can’t wear contacts at all going forward. Who do I contact to get in on this Chad action? I am furious with their negligence.
I used Hubble contacts from 2019 – 2022 I was told by my new eye doctor to stop use of them immediately and explained this suit to me and said to reach out to someone. Since the day I first got them till the day I stopped using them I have suffered severe scaring on my eyes as well as multiple infections in my cornea. I had my eyes examined and the prescription I am in isn’t the same as the prescription Hubble gave me. Because I at first was a first time contact lenses user I didn’t know any different as well as when Covid hit things were rough to get anything medical or in that area. So I have to say now that what I know makes me very disappointed in this company. Because of them I can’t wear contacts as I should be able to I will always have scaring and issues with my eyes and it all could of been avoided if they would of just done their job properly to begin with. I also have all my emergency room visits along with eye doctor and doctors visit to show how many infections I have had since the day I started to wear the contacts.
