Mesothelioma cancerA widow has filed a lawsuit against several companies purporting that her husband’s death and diagnosis of lung cancer was the result of asbestos exposure.

According a report announcing the recent filing of the asbestos lung cancer lawsuit, plaintiff Georgie D. filed the lawsuit on behalf of her husband, Leroy D.

She filed the lawsuit in St. Clair County Circuit Court in Michigan against 4520 Corp. Inc., Albany International Corp., Ameron International Corp., Arconic Inc., and Armstrong Pumps Inc. Among other damages and counts, she is alleging negligence.

According to the report on the asbestos lung cancer lawsuit, the deceased, Leroy D., was exposed to and inhaled asbestos fibers that were “manufactured, sold, distributed, or installed by defendants.” The lawsuit states that because of his handling of the products, he developed cancer and died on Jan. 24, 2016.

According to the report covering the asbestos lung cancer lawsuit, moreover, the plaintiff contends that the defendants negligently included the asbestos fibers in their products. The defendants could instead provide adequate substitutes instead of the asbestos fibers but also failed to provide sufficient and adequate warnings informing the employees of the risks and consequences of becoming exposed to asbestos fibers.

According to the report addressing the asbestos lung cancer lawsuit, the plaintiff is seeking a jury by trial. Additionally, he is asking for damages of more than $50,000 which includes punitive and exemplary damages and any other relief that the court may see appropriate.

Asbestos Lung Cancer Lawsuit Facts

Asbestos is a group of heat-resistant fibrous silicate minerals that occur naturally as bundles of fibers. They can be woven into fabric and be further used as insulating materials such as in brake linings.

Additionally, the naturally occurring minerals have been used as insulating materials for floor tiles, pipes, stream lines, building materials, and in clutches and brakes.

According to reports, the consequences and serious adverse side effects can begin soon after inhalation. However, reports have indicated that signs and symptoms of an asbestos-related exposure and a diagnosis of an asbestos-related disease may not occur for years or even decades after.

Asbestos exposure statistics maintain that they can kill as much as 12,000-15,000 people per year in the U.S. Estimations further report that more people die of lung cancer due to asbestos exposure than from asbestosis or mesothelioma.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are two of the most common types of lung cancer that can develop. It can also occur where the cancer contains characteristics of both types. This is called small cell/large cell cancer.

Approximately 80% of lung cancers developed are non-small cell lung cancer, and 20% are small cell lung cancer. The small cancer cells can multiply quickly in the body forming large tumors, the abnormal growth of tissue, anywhere in the body including lymph nodes and other organs.
