KitchenAid mixer class action settlementA federal class action lawsuit filed in New York claims Whirlpool KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens not only break in as little as two cleaning cycles, but that using the self-cleaning cycle five or six times “damages the ovens beyond repair.”

According to the Whirlpool KitchenAid class action lawsuit, “The Ovens feature a self-cleaning capability that, upon the first or second use, damages the control panel as a result of excessive heat, requiring costly repairs in order to begin reusing the Oven. After the fifth or sixth use of the self-cleaning cycle, the heat from the self-cleaning cycle damages the control panel beyond repair.”

Whirlpool sells these defective KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens at major U.S. retailers, including Home Depot, Sears and P.C. Richard & Sons, with a one-year factory warranty for parts and labor and a five-year warranty for specified parts if they become defective because of workmanship. These warranties are virtually useless, the class action lawsuit claims, because “the damage resulting from the self-cleaning cycle is not covered by the 5-year warranty” and “consumers often do not use the self-cleaning feature during the first year, since the Oven has not yet been heavily used and dirtied.”

The KitchenAid class action lawsuit claims Whirlpool knew about the serious nature of the defective KitchenAid self-cleaning ovens that required costly repairs and ultimately result in the destruction of the oven, yet continued to sell the ovens. Numerous customers have alerted Whirlpool about the problems with the KitchenAid self-cleaning cycle, yet “to this day, [Whirlpool] continues to conceal material information from users, consumer, and the public.”

The Whirlpool KitchenAid class action lawsuit is brought on behalf anyone who purchased a KitchenAid self-cleaning oven on or after June 3, 2008 at retail price for personal use in the State of New York. It is seeking class certification, refunds to class members, compensatory and other damages, and an order requiring Whirlpool to immediately cease its wrongful conduct and enjoin it from continuing to conceal the defect.

My husband used the self-cleaning option on our stove for the first time and now the only thing that works are the burners. He called KitchenAid, who were no help. We payed to have a repair come out and tell us that it would be one $800 to fix, and we would be better off buying a new stove. I am in California and would love to be part of this lawsuit.

I recently purchased all new parts for my whirlpoop range due to oven not engaging at all. Parts I replaced were the elements, oven temp sensor, thermofuse and control panel. Installed all parts and everything worked perfectly for over a month until I decided to run the self-clean function today for the first time. The oven is dead, door is locked and display is black. However the stove top works fine. I am completely tired of dealing with this range, it’s a piece of crap that I have invested nearly $1000. I would have been better off buying a different range and not replaced the parts. Now I will be out nearly $1000, plus the cost of a new range. Totally unacceptable. I would like to join this class action lawsuit, but am unsure how to go about doing it.

I used the self-Clean option on my oven model# RB0306PD89 for the second time in 10 years and the oven is completely dead. I live in IL. Definitely want to be part of the suit. The customer service at Whirlpool is useless. Won’t even have a dialogue about problem. Will never purchase from again.

We purchased the kitchen aid wall oven in 2010 and only upon the second use of the self cleaning oven of the upper oven, the inside glass shattered and exploded all over our kitchen floor. It shattered with such a loud sound we jumped out of our chairs, lucky no one was close enough to get hurt. We called Kitchen aid and they are sending a service man to look and repair on 1/21/13 at no charge even though we have the extended warranty, which lead me to believe this must be a common problem since they are not sending us to the extended warranty company.

I have had a similiar problem, upon my second use of the upper oven self cleaning, the inside glass panel burst and shattered all over the kitchen floor. It made such a loud noise we jumped off the stool. We did purchase the extended warranty, totalling 5 years. When we called Whirlpool they said we did not have to use the extended warranty and they are sending out a repair man on 1/21/13. I will def. express all my other concerns learned on this blog. thank you all for sharing. this is very scary, we are lucky no one got hurt by all the glass that came flying out of the bottom of the door.

Whirlpool RB5275p006 wall oven blows fuses after using the self cleaning function. First, about a year ago and now again this week. The same problem is being reported by other owners. This is obviously a design or mfg. defect and cost of repairs should be paid by Whirlpool.
We live in NC so we are not part of the class action suit, but want to point out that problem is wide spread.

Oven shut down after using self-cleaning function once! Had warranty and repair was made. I was advised to avoid using self-cleaning by both repair co and kitchenaid. This was in 2010. I did not use self-cleaning ever again. This Thanksgiving, I put in the turkey and the oven shut down! (relative stepped in and saved our dinner!) So what gives? This was a new oven which cost $2100!! And I have barely used it.

I remodeled my kitchen, laundry and bath and installed kitchenaid top of the line appliances throughout 2009-2010.. I ended up with repairmen living with us and my taking off from work for over a year and continue to have issues. Every holiday, I’m unable to cook my turkey without doubling the time from 4 hrs- 10 hours, which requires that I stay up and watch it all night. My control panel also went out and I was told each time the cost was nearly $600. The washer destroys our clothes, but is not very good at cleaning them. The fridge freezes all dairy products and veggies in bin rot in days. The grinding sound in water filtration I was told by repairman, is a chronic problem they are well aware of. Parts are all cheap plastic not designed to last …help me connect with all class action groups. These appliances have been a nightmare!! Help!!

We also have a KitchenAid wall oven that no longer works following only the second time using the self cleaning function. We wish to join in the Class Action suit.
