walmart shopping for gift cardsA recent class action lawsuit claims that Walmart gift cards are tampered with by criminals due to the retailer’s negligence.

Gift card fraud is a serious issue that can affect both retailers and their customers. According to the Walmart class action, scammers will enter stores, remove the security tape found on the back of gift cards, and copy down the gift card number and pin so that they can use it later on.

After the information is copied, scammers reportedly replace the security tape and return gift cards to their original location.

Later, when genuine consumers purchase the Walmart gift cards and load them with money, scammers can use their stolen information to use the gift card funds before actual customers can do so.

Several plaintiffs filed the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit claiming that the retailer leaves their gift cards out where scammers can steal them and fails to sufficiently secure the gift cards’ numbers and PINs. Despite numerous consumer complaints about the issue, Walmart has allegedly failed to fix the issue.

“Consumers have lost millions of dollars that they loaded onto the Gift Cards because Walmart failed to take adequate and reasonable measures to ensure that scammers did not tamper with the Gift Cards and failed to disclose to its customers the material fact that it was possible that the Gift Cards had been tampered with,” the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit states.

As a result, countless consumers have allegedly purchased compromised Walmart gift cards. Some customers may give the gift cards to friends or family members or may attempt to use them themselves but are shocked and embarrassed when their gift card funds are stolen.

Additionally, Walmart allegedly tries to remedy the issue by deactivating gift cards that they think have been tampered with. Although this prevents scammers from using the cards, it reportedly means that authentic customers are unable to use the funds they have loaded onto the cards.

According to the Walmart shoppers, the retail giant also refuses to replace or refund consumers for their unusable gift cards.

“Walmart deactivated thousands of Gift Cards so as to deny Plaintiffs and Class members access to the money loaded onto the card and failed and refused to replace them with a suitable, functioning Gift Card,” the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit claims.

The plaintiffs seek to represent a Class of consumers who purchased compromised Walmart gift cards and had the loaded funds used by a third party or had their gift card deactivated by Walmart prior to use.

The Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit seeks actual damages, statutory damages, exemplary damages, punitive damages, restitution, disgorgement, injunctive relief, declaratory relief, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

Plaintiffs in the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit are represented by Donald M. Brown and Craig R. Heidmann of Douglas Haun & Heidmann PC; Q. Byrum Hurst of Hurst Law Group; and E. Powell Miller, Sharon S. Almonrode, Emily E. Hughes, and William Kalas of The Miller Law Firm.

The Walmart Gift Cards Class Action Lawsuit is Foster, et al. v. Walmart Inc., et al., Case No. 4:19-cv-00571-BSM, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

I recieved a egift card as a Christmas present that was purchased off Walmart website and send to my email. I applied funds to my Walmart account and 2 wks later funds were gone. Someone used my gift card off my Walmart App in a different state at a Sams Club curbside. Walmart doesn’t wanna help with nothing and their customer service sucks.
