Canyon Creek Ranch dog treatOn Dec. 10, an appeal to a class action settlement over allegations certain Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch dog treats caused pets to get sick was dismissed. As a result, the settlement status has been changed to “Pre-Disbursement,” meaning that checks may soon be mailed to Class Members who filed valid claims.

[UPDATE 1/1/16: After this article published the Settlement Administrator updated their site to remove the status “Pre-Disbursement” and replace it with the status “Appeal Resolution.” No further information on the status of settlement disbursement or the resolution of further appeals has been posted. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.]

The dog treat settlement will resolve three class action lawsuits alleging Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch dog treats that were imported from or contained ingredients from China were defective and caused some pets to become sick after eating them. The plaintiffs blamed the jerky treats for the illness and death of more than 1,000 pets.

Nestle Purina PetCare Company and Waggin’ Train LLC, the manufacturers of the allegedly defective jerky treats, deny any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the dog treat class action lawsuits to avoid the cost and expense of trial.

Class Members of the dog treat settlement include anyone who purchased or obtained the affected Waggin’ Train and/or Canyon Creek Ranch dog food products, and anyone whose pets consumed any of the dog treat products imported from China or containing any ingredient imported from China.

Under the terms of the dog treat class action settlement, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims were eligible to receive up to a 100 percent cash payment for documented, reasonable economic damages incurred as a result of their purchase or their pet’s consumption of the allegedly defective dog treat products. Class Members without documentation could claim up to $300 per pet, subject to a pro rata reduction and other limitations.

The deadline to file a claim for the dog treat class action settlement passed on April 1, 2015. The settlement was given final approval on June 23, 2015, but was subject to an appeal. Now that the appeal has been dismissed, the settlement administrator will begin preparations for disbursing payments to Class Members who submitted valid and timely claims.

I was wondering how we get a hold of anyone by phone to find out more information on when for sure checks are being mailed. I know Jill Holbrook said 12-21and Pattie Price said not until March, but where did they hear this information or is it speculation. (not that I don t believe you two, but there is a lot of things being said on multiple sites.) Can anyone help me with a names and phone number.

My dog died in September of this year. She was my best friend and Purina products was what she ate. My doctor could not figure out what was going on when looking at her blood work. She had intestinal distress and it killed her. We suspect it to have been the food she was eating. Her kidney values were off the charts. We nursed her till the day she passed right here at my feet where she would always be. My understanding is that these treats are not the only thing harming our beloved pets. I went to Purina and tried to place a claim on her but I got turned down because the very product here above they claimed to be 100% safe. And it is an INSULT for them to only offer 300.00 max. per pet… ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I put my little girl above life itself. NO MONEY could replace her. I cry every day. 13 years. This case is a real disappointment.. Good luck to you all! P.S. This is why I didnt put in for this. Some humans are just unaware of how loving and trusting their animals are. They have ONLY YOU and me. And just like you and me they did not ask to be born into such a cruel greedy world.

    1. Goshay says:

Sorry for your loss. From my understanding it was up to $300 unless you have documentation from your vet and then you may be reimbursed fully. My dog was very ill with intestinal problems also. He had bloody stools, lethargy and tons more issues. Luckily after a short hospital stay, he survived. I had no idea it was the treats so shortly after him returning home I started back giving them to him only for him to have the same symptoms over again has submitted my claim as well as documentation from my vet bill from my understanding should be reimbursed the entire amount which was right under $1000. I certainly agree you can definitely not place a price tag on your path, as I feel strongly that my dog is family, he’s my little boy and I love him so much I couldn’t imagine what you’re going through. Again I am sorry for your loss .?

    2. Kelley R Joseph says:

I totally understand. My little Papillon loved those treats and eventually was inpatient at the vet…we didn’t make the connection…she was there for pancreatitis, and it was too late for her after 7 days and 5000 later. The lawsuit is too late, but I don’t even care or want the money, I am just so shocked that they are still selling this piece of shit product!!! If it is not made in the USA, I will never ever ever buy it now. We have to stand up to these jerks that promote the jerky treats!

  6. JUDITH DIAZ says:

    STILL WAITING

  7. Mike says:

It may be written in the final Order from the Appeal. Judge may have given specific time frame.

  8. Jill Holbrook says:

Where do you get march? Checks were to start going out 12/21/15 and they have 6 months to get them all out per settlement agreement. They continued to process claims while appeal was being argued so payments shouldnt take that long. Original 6 months from settlement date would end mid jan and i believe they got 60 to 90 day extension on that due to appeal

  9. Pattie Price says:

It will be March b4 a check is issued

  10. Sean Deen says:

Doesn’t it take 30-90 days from date of dismal to Start Mailing checks?
