Over 450 victims came forward in the month after the October 2017 Las Vegas Route 91 Festival shooting to initiate a lawsuit alleging negligent security. Even more individuals may be eligible to recover compensation in the event of a successful Route 91 Festival shooting settlement or lawsuit outcome.
These victims who may have been hurt in the Route 91 Festival shooting include persons and staff who were inside the festival gates at the time the shooting occurred.
MGM Resorts International was named as the defendant in the Route 91 Festival shooting lawsuits, in addition to the concert promoter and the estate of the gunman.
The Route 91 Festival shooting lawsuits allege that the severity of the attack was made much worse by negligent security and other activities or lack of activity that could have decreased the number of people who were seriously hurt or killed. The plaintiffs in many of these lawsuits have suffered everything from post-traumatic stress to injuries associated with gunshot wounds and trampling. Many of the individuals hurt in the Route 91 Festival shooting have their own unique outcomes and are continuing to cope with the consequences of the shooting.
The 32nd floor of the MGM-run Mandalay Bay Hotel was where the shooter carried out the attack on the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival. He fired on the crowds out of two broken windows over the course of a few minutes. The Route 91 Festival lawsuits allege that the venue and the festival were both responsible for negligence, contributing to damages, deaths and injuries sustained by clients.
The Mandalay Bay staff was previously accused of failing to appropriately monitor the hotel and of negligently allowing a visitor to bring ammunition and guns into his room. This allegedly prevented staff in the hotel from being able to respond to the attack in a timely manner. As a result, plaintiffs claim, the shooter was not stopped until much later than he could have been.
In claims of negligent security, the owner or manager of the property could be held accountable for failing to prevent serious and dangerous incidents. Many of the victims and their family members from the Route 91 festival shooting are still working to heal the physical and emotional trauma from the incident.
In these lawsuits brought forward by the survivors, Live Nation is also being accused of behavior that allowed the shooting to occur and continue. Those claims include accusations that Live Nation did not provide enough exits from the location, ultimately causing people to get trampled, and that employees were not properly prepared for emergency situations. Plaintiffs say the festival producers failed to use media boards, video monitors, and loudspeakers to help people figure out what to do in the wake of the shooting.
Civil lawsuits may be the only way for some survivors of the Las Vegas concert shooting to pay their medical bills and assist with disability, pain and suffering, counseling for PTSD, and lost earnings due to missed time at work.
