A pelvic mesh lawsuit was filed by a Florida woman against Boston Scientific Corporation for allegedly selling her a defective and unsafe product.
Plaintiff Virginia R. says the Boston Scientific vaginal mesh caused debilitating complications.
Virginia was suffering from either pelvic organ prolapse (POP) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI). While her lawsuit does not specify how her pelvic muscle lining weakened, it is commonly due to a physical trauma like childbirth.
In most cases, the pelvic muscles eventually recover and readjust themselves inside the woman’s body. In the cases in which women do not fully recover, they can suffer from such issues as controlling their bladder.
Vaginal mesh is used in such cases to strengthen the weakened area. It is a net-like material implanted in the woman. Virginia was implanted with vaginal mesh in June 2012.
Not long after the device was implanted, Virginia says she started suffering complications. Among the complications reported from mesh implants are erosion, infection, mesh tearing, and organ tearing. Her lawsuit did specify which complication she suffered.
A multidistrict litigation (MDL) was established for Boston Scientific Corporation vaginal mesh lawsuits due to the similar nature of the allegations.
The lawsuit alleges Boston Scientific was responsible for warning about potential complications. Virginia says she would not have used this vaginal mesh product if she had known about the possible complications.
Virginia’s lawsuit accuses Boston Scientific of negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.
