Unum Disability Insurance Claim DenialUnum Life Insurance Company of America is facing a new Unum claim denial lawsuit, from a South Carolina resident alleging the company wrongfully denied his claim for disability coverage.

According to his Unum claim denial lawsuit, the disability insurance claim denial is causing severe financial strain as it closes off access to the coverage the plaintiff needs for his medical condition.

Plaintiff Michael H. was previously employed by Tolt Service Group, LLC, and had been entitled to long term disability benefits that was supposed to be provided by Unum.

However Michael ceased working in January 2014, due to his injuries from the disability.

It is important to note that Unum was solely responsible for the evaluation of Michael’s claim, which means that the company had significant control over Michael’s disability insurance claim denial.

Unum is one of the largest disability insurance providers in the United States, insuring millions across the United States.

While this company has a long legacy of insurance coverage in the country, the company has gained an infamous reputation for allegedly denying claims under questionable circumstances.

Claimants, like Michael, allege the company denies claims for no legitimate reasoning, despite ample medical evidence suggesting the claimant needs the insurance.

Overview of Unum Disability Insurance Claim Denial

When Michael filed for long term disability coverage, he followed all administrative procedures and filed all relevant medical documentation.

Even though the testimony from his physicians illustrated him to be eligible for disability coverage, Unum still supported the disability insurance claim denial.

Michael timely filed an appeal, but was met with the same result. In both instances, Michael filed for disability coverage, Unum allegedly failed to give adequate reasoning and ignored relevant medical evidence when making their disability insurance claim denial decision.

In addition, Unum allegedly acted against the best interest of Michael in making the decision regarding the disability insurance claim denial.

Michael is calling for a “full and fair” review of his claim for long term disability coverage, and is confident that the appropriate claim reviewer will agree that the disability insurance claim denial was unfairly founded.

He is not only suing Unum for all missed payments of his disability coverage, but also any other relevant damages.

The Unum Disability Insurance Claim Denial Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-03055-DCN, in the U.S. District Court of South Carolina, Charleston Division.
