Unum-disability-insuranceUnum Life Insurance Company of America is facing a new claim denial lawsuit from a Louisiana woman alleging her disability coverage was wrongfully denied.

According to the claim denial lawsuit, this woman needed Unum disability insurance to cover numerous medical bills related to her condition.

Plaintiff Lauren J. is filing legal action against the company, alleging it had denied her Unum disability insurance payments for insufficient or no reasoning at all.

Lauren had been previously fully employed at Apache Corporation, where she was provided disability coverage through Unum should she ever need it.

Unum Life Insurance Company of America is one of the largest disability insurance providers in the country, serving millions of customers across the country. However this company has become infamous for allegedly using specific tactics or strategies to deny disability coverage claims.

Before she filed for Unum disability insurance coverage, Lauren had no reason to believe she would have any difficulties receiving benefits.

Overview of Unum Disability Insurance Lawsuit

However, since Jan. 08, 2014, Lauren has been reportedly unable to work due her disability and has not been able to secure gainful employment. Consequently, Lauren has also been unable to earn sufficient income and has been struggling with her mounting medical bills.

Lauren had applied for Unum disability insurance benefits soon after she was considered disabled, and had followed all administrative instruction when submitting her claim for disability.

This not only included adhering to a specific timeline, but also included submitting all relevant medical evidence and testimony.

Even though Lauren had allegedly met all qualifications for Unum disability insurance coverage, she was still denied the benefits.

According to the claim denial lawsuit, Unum did not give sufficient reason for its decision to deny Lauren benefits and may have allegedly ignored evidence to suggest that she was eligible to receive disability benefits.

At this point in time, Lauren has exhausted all administrative options and has been forced to resort to legal action to pursue the Unum disability insurance, according to the claim.

Lauren is seeking compensation for all missed disability payments, along with any additional interest. Furthermore, Lauren alleges that the company failed in its fiduciary duty to fairly evaluate her claim to determine if she is eligible for Unum disability insurance.

The Unum Disability Insurance Lawsuit is Case No. 2:16-cv-17666, in the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
