Johnson & Johnson is facing a new baby powder ovarian cancer lawsuit from a woman alleging serious baby powder injury.
The woman claims that in result of using the company’s talcum powder products, she developed ovarian cancer.
She is filing a legal action against the company, accusing it of failing to warn her against the potential correlation between talcum powder and ovarian cancer. New York plaintiff Lenore K. is filing this baby powder ovarian cancer lawsuit after allegedly experiencing chronic medical side effects from baby powder injury.
According to the claim, Lenore used Johnson & Johnson’s talcum baby powder products since 1966 and had used them until 2015. During all times relevant, Lenore used the talcum powder for typical hygienic purposes that had included female personal hygiene applications.
Allegedly, women used Johnson & Johnson talcum powders for years for feminine hygiene. Johnson & Johnson allegedly marketed its talcum powder products specifically for this particular application.
While talcum powder has many other uses, women applying the product to their genital area has reportedly resulted in serious baby powder injury. As an alleged result of using Johnson & Johnson talcum baby powder for feminine hygiene for many years, Lenore was diagnosed with baby powder ovarian cancer on May 5, 2014.
Overview of Baby Powder Ovarian Cancer Correlation
Talcum powder has been used for hygiene purposes for decades, often used to treat rash and other symptoms that can be treated with baby powder.
Johnson & Johnson has made millions from their baby powder and Shower to Shower powder. But the company is now currently facing serious product liability allegations that its talcum products are linked to ovarian cancer.
Scientists first reported evidence of a link between ovarian cancer and baby powder injury in the 1970s. The first epidemiological study was conducted in 1982. During this study, it was found that women who used talcum powder were more likely to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Scientists theorize that when applied to the genital area, the talc particles enter and travel through the woman’s reproductive system and eventually settles in the ovaries. Eventually the talc particles could trigger the development of ovarian cancer.
While treatable in early stages, ovarian cancer can quickly become deadly if allowed to progress. Even though Johnson & Johnson allegedly knew about this connection for years, the company failed to warn the public against this potential baby powder injury.
Lenore’s baby powder ovarian cancer lawsuit is filed in multidistrict litigation (MDL) No. 2738, where it will stand alongside similar claims alleging talcum powder induced ovarian cancer. Lenore is seeking multiple damages for negligence, failure to warn, and other applicable claims.
This Baby Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-01666-FLW-LHG, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
