monat-conditionerMonat Global Corp. faces another class action lawsuit alleging that the company’s hair care products cause hair loss instead of treating it, as advertised.

According to plaintiff Amber Alabaster, she bought Monat hair care products to treat her hair loss.

Alabaster claims Monat hair care products are advertised as being able to stop hair loss and promote hair regrowth, as well as being suitable for all skin and hair types.

However, the plaintiff argues that her use of the products caused significant irritation to her skin and caused her to lose more hair.

She alleges that when she called Monat to talk about her problem and find a solution, a representative claimed that she was just going through a “detoxing” period that would initially cause her to lose hair, but then she would regrow more hair. Allegedly, they also suggested she purchase more expensive Monat products to address the problem.

Alabaster says the claim of a “detoxing” period is one excuse that the company gives out to many consumers experiencing hair loss from the products. She also claims that the company’s suggestion to purchase other Monat products to remedy their hair loss problem is not an attempt to help consumers, but an attempt to get them to spend more money.

Alabaster’s lawsuit comes on the heels of other customer complaints of the same nature against Monat. Just last month, another class action lawsuit brought forward many of the same claims against Monat.

According to Alabaster, in January 2018 Monat sued another consumer for creating a Facebook page dedicated to alleged victims of Monat. The suit included, among other things, a requirement that the consumer turn the Facebook page over to Monat.

The Monat class action claims that the company intentionally misleads consumers about the nature of their products. The plaintiff says the product’s marketing is in direct contrast to the products’ actual nature, citing advertising materials that say Monat products “significant[ly] decrease…hair loss effect and increase in hair regrowth,” and that Monat has “higher proven results than the other leading hair rejuvenation brands.”

Additionally, the Monat hair loss class action lawsuit claims that the company intentionally misrepresented the research that went into its products. The Monat false advertising class action lawsuit alleges that the company “directly and indirectly” communicates to consumers that the products have been clinically tested when this is not the case.

The false hair regrowth class action lawsuit cites a number of marketing statements by Monat claiming that the hair care products “have passed all clinical safely tests to which they have been subjected.” However, the Monat defective hair treatment class action lawsuit claims that some ingredients in the products have been subjected to limited testing, the products as a whole have not been subjected to any clinical safety tests.

The Monat deceptive advertising class action lawsuit then goes on to claim that the company also intentionally misrepresents the products’ ingredients — it claims that the products are advertised as containing no PEGs, silicones, or petrochemicals, when in fact, the products contain all of these ingredients.

Alabaster says she would not have purchased the Monat hair care products if she had been properly warned about the impacts of the products. She seeks damages on behalf of herself and all similarly affected consumers.

The plaintiff is represented by William B. Federman of Federman & Sherwood.

The Monat Hair Loss Class Action Lawsuit is Amber Alabaster v. Monat Global Corp., Case No. 5:18-cv-00224-M, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.

  2. Elizabeth Johnson says:

I want to be added to this lawsuit. This product ruined my hair—it fell out in huge handfuls and has never been the same since.

  3. Amy Harrell says:

Please please include me! I started using Monat treatment shampoo and conditioners and regrowth spray in 2018. I followed the directions and patiently waited for results that were promised, it was a complete nightmare. about two weeks in I lost fist fulls of hair daily. The texture of my hair was horrible, brittle and dull. its been almost two years. like all the other gals suffering in silence I have to join in on this. My hairline has changed 100% and has receded back an inch. Ive got giant holes of missing hair that have not grown back….Its been over 2 years!!! Ive waited long enough! Monet needs to stop ruining peoples lives and stop lying. These products are horrible and filled with ingredients that can even cause cancer! I HATE that I ever believed this would work for me and I regret this decision every day. I wish I could post a photo here!!!! Makes me cry…

  4. Debra Stewart says:

This company Monat needs to be stopped From selling it’s hideous products. I used to have a head full of thick hair and now it is so thin because clumps, handfuls of hair were coming out when I shampooed finally I asked my friend who sold it to me she said oh it’s a detox thing your hair will get used to it oh my god really after it has taken all my hair…seriously!?!

  5. Debbie Stewart says:

Is there a law suit for us just now experiencing the hair loss and scalp itching from using Monat!?! I’m beyond pissed off ? ?

  6. Ashley says:

I have the same problem, hair loss and severe damage, when I asked about information I was lied to, after following up with my dr I was told to discontinue.

  7. Dahlis Serich says:

How do I go about getting on this class action lawsuit? I have hundreds of pictures to show the damage done by Monat. Another issue is the false representation of the market partners. Most market partners that I come across have hair extensions, leading the consumer to believe they can achieve that look while using their garbage products. All of my hair fell out and something needs to be done about this company. Too many people are suffering at the benefit of the market partners.

    1. Elizabeth Johnson says:

The market partners definitely need to be sued as well.

  8. Lisa Generette says:

How can I join the class action law suit?

  9. Amanda Marnholtz says:

Please add me. I was roped into being a Market Partner and after 3 months my hair started falling out. It’s horrible and I feel completely used.

  10. Taylar Epperly says:

I want added to this claim. I lost over 10-12 inches of hair and my hair thinned out so bad. I went to the doctor for blood work thinking it was my thyroid, which it wasn’t. I went to a dermatologist to see if there was something wrong with my hair folicals, and nothing but they recommended me to stop using the product. I’ve been off of Monat for about a year now and my hair is finally starting to thicken up. It took me so long to grow my hair out to how long it was and now it’s short. Ugh.
