Newly released evidence regarding the massacre at the Route 91 Harvest Festival has been made public. The Las Vegas Police Department has released more than 1,200 pages of witness statements that were taken that day and in weeks following.
The statements concur that shots began to fire after Jason Aldean had sung four or five songs. At first, many in the crowd believed the noise to be firecrackers that a rowdy fan had lit. Others thought static from the large speakers was responsible for the popping sounds but then realized there were no speakers behind them, which is where the sounds originated.
An unnamed survivor of the Route 91 Harvest Festival tragedy said everyone around him was yelling that the noise was fireworks.
According to an NPR article, the survivor recalls, “I was at the concert with my aunt. We were in the grass area in front of the stage. During Jason Aldean, I heard a handful of fireworks or gunshots. I was looking for fireworks, then I heard more gunshots. Jason Aldean ran, so I said, ‘Let’s go’ to my aunt. We ran; everyone was yelling ‘I got shot, I got shot!’”
The survivor says she and her aunt dropped to the ground but continued running when the shots stopped for a few seconds.
“All the fencing was knocked down, so we went to the police because my aunt was shot. The cops told us to run. My aunt stayed with the police, and I ran to the Tropicana. My boyfriend came and picked me up. I realized at home I got shrapnel in my right calf, so I went to the hospital.”
That is just one of the handwritten statements that make the Route 91 Harvest Festival sound more like a war zone than a music concert.
Help for Survivors of Route 91 Harvest Festival
The terror that concertgoers felt as 58 fellow music fans were shot to death and 546 others were injured all around them will haunt survivors forever. The risk of struggling with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) and other emotional injuries is just as real as the physical injuries.
Unfortunately, survivors of the Route 91 Harvest Festival report they have been denied claims from the Las Vegas Victims Fund because they were deemed “not injured enough.”
The Las Vegas Victims Fund is a non-profit organization created to handle the distribution of the $22 million in donations raised after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.
If you’re experiencing PTSD or recovering from a physical injury because you were inside the concert gates at the time the shooting started, you should be compensated for the terror you survived. A lawyer can help navigate the legal red tape by representing you in a Route 91 Harvest Festival lawsuit.
Mandalay Bay Resort owner MGM Resorts International, Route 91 music festival organizer LiveNation, and the deceased gunman’s $5 million estate already face lawsuits from hundreds of survivors. A Route 91 Harvest Festival lawsuit could enable you to recover money for expenses related to injuries, PTSD, lost earning, wrongful death, and pain and suffering.
If you or a loved one were inside the concert gates when the shooting started (including concert staff) and suffered PTSD or a physical injury as a result, you deserve compensation — and you deserve an attorney who will fight to prove your injuries.
