medical lab fees Quest Diagnositcs pricesWhen patients receive lab tests at medical labs, they expect to pay fair prices for their tests. However, some patients are questioning Quest Diagnostics prices and wondering if they have been overcharged.

Sometimes patients are surprised by the fees they are charged for routine lab tests by medical labs. Quest Diagnostics prices have been under criticism lately as patients wonder if all that they have been charged is fair. It is possible that some lab companies, such as Quest Diagnostics, may not be charging patients fair prices.

When a patient goes to a medical lab to get tests, the lab charges the insurance company for the cost of the tests, and then may charge the patient a copay for the service. Usually, insurance companies have contracts with labs for certain prices for tests. This means that they get the tests for discounted prices, which costs the customer less.

At times, insurance companies do not want to cover certain lab test that they may not think are necessary or are experimental. When this happens patients have to pay for the tests on their own.

In these cases, patients are then charged for the full price of the test – not the lower negotiated rate that insurance companies enjoy. Quest Diagnostics prices for an out-of-pocket payer may be higher than what an insurance company would have to pay.

Other medical labs may have been engaging in similar practices. Both LabCorp (Laboratory Corporation of America) and Bio-Reference Laboratories may be charging a higher price for out-of-pocket payers.

Some customers have been wanting to know more about Quest Diagnostic prices and the prices of other routine medical lab tests. They want the lab companies to be more transparent in what their healthcare costs actually are.

The believe that patients should be aware upfront if a particular lab test is not covered by health insurance.

In fact, some medical lab fee class action lawsuits have been filed by patients who have been charged high Quest Diagnostic prices unfairly. All three lab companies, however, are currently under investigation for unfair medical pricing practices.

Some advocates are even calling for Federal action to take place to regulate insurance companies’ billing practices. Some states have laws in place to prohibit surprise billing and establish a process for determining how much health plans must pay to providers.

But even though some states have put protections in place, there are many patients still unprotected.

If you believe you have been charged high Quest Diagnostics prices unfairly, you may benefit from a consultation with a knowledgeable insurance attorney.
