A class action lawsuit alleges that NutriBullet blenders can heat up dangerously and explode during use, injuring users.
Deveta White claims that she received a NutriBullet blender as a gift.
She states that one day, she was bending a mixture of water, walnuts, sea moss, and cinnamon, when she noticed that there was a problem with the device’s seals.
The Nutribullet class action lawsuit claims that the device then quickly exploded, and that the contents were extremely hot, flew everywhere, and burned her skin where they touched her.
This isn’t the first time the NutriBullet has come under fire — in December 2017, another lawsuit was filed over similar claims.
White claims that she then had to be treated for first and second degree burns on her hands and chest, and that she had to pay more than $5,000 for her medical treatment related to the incident. She says that additionally, she had to miss work due to her injuries.
According to the NutriBullet class action lawsuit, the design of the device is defective in such a way that it causes the device to malfunction and leads to injuries.
Allegedly, the inside of a NutriBullet canister can become so pressurized while it is being used normally that the canister separates from the other parts of the blender, and explodes.
Additionally, the NutriBullet class action lawsuit states that the NutriBullet blender’s blades heat the contents of the blender up dangerously while the device is being used.
Though the NutriBullet reportedly is accompanied by a warning that tells consumers that the device should not be run for more than 60 seconds consecutively, allegedly, the speed of the blade heats the contents up to dangerous levels even when the device is run for less than 60 seconds consecutively.
According to the NutriBullet class action lawsuit, the device can be dangerous even if it does not explode. The NutriBullet class action lawsuit claims that the canister can be difficult to remove from the blades.
Allegedly, once a consumer is able to release the lid, it can shoot off of the canister without warning, possibly causing the blade to fly off and scalding contents to spill, putting the user and others at risk of injury.
Because of these alleged defects, White says the NutriBullet cannot be used without the risk of injury. She claims that by selling the dangerous and defective device, Capital Brands, the company that manufactures the NutriBullet, violated state and federal consumer protection laws and warranty laws.
The Nutribullet class action lawsuit claims that the company knew of the defects and continued to sell the product, and did not issue a recall when it should have.
The plaintiff seeks damages for herself and other affected consumers, and seeks an injunction to stop the company from selling the defective product, and seeks to require Capital Brands to warn people who already own the NutriBullet of its dangers.
White is represented by Crystal Foley, Paul J. Hanly Jr., and Mitchell M. Breit of Simmons Hanly Conroy LLC; and Gregory F. Coleman, Mark E. Silvey, Adam A. Edwards, and Lisa A. White of Greg Coleman Law PC.
The Exploding NutriBullet Class Action Lawsuit is Deveta White v. Nutribullet LLC, et al., Case No. 2:18-cv-05785, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division.

The case is still moving through the courts and has not yet reached a settlement. Claim forms are usually not made available to consumers until after a court approved settlement is reached. Add Twyla Lee to the list, gifted last birthday. I like making Smoothies, doesn’t mix/blend fruits well.
Add me please–my nutribullet malfunctions by NOT turning on and I have to wrench and push it hard to engage it. Then it practically explodes turning on. My husband sometimes has to start it for me–been like that since day one, no easy way to replace it.
I have had problems with my Nutribullet, how do I become a part of the class action suit?
