Baby Powder CancerAn Alton woman filed a baby powder cancer lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson, stating their talcum powder products had caused her to develop ovarian cancer.

Other defendants named in this baby powder lawsuit include Imerys Talc America Inc. and Luzenac America.

All are facing allegations from over 200 plaintiffs from Madison County who allegedly developed ovarian cancer in result of using the talcum powder products.

Plaintiff Christine H. alleged she had used talcum powder between 1982 to 2012 for hygiene, and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012.

The baby powder cancer lawsuit alleges that these products were “unreasonably dangerous and defective,” with the product labels containing no warnings or indications of ovarian cancer rick.

Christine states that she has experienced diminished quality of life, and has incurred serious medical bills from her condition. Christine and the other plaintiffs had reportedly used the talcum powder products throughout their lives, and had all allegedly developed ovarian cancer as a result.

Overview of Talcum Powder Cancer

Talc is a magnesium based mineral that is grounded up into fine powder, which is popularly used for different hygiene purposes.

Johnson & Johnson has manufactured and marketed talcum powder into widely popular products Baby Powder and Shower to Shower powder, which women have used for generations.

Women would popularly apply the talcum powder to their genital area for feminine hygiene, which has been the alleged cause of the ovarian cancer epidemic in women.

The alleged connection between talcum powder and ovarian cancer was first noticed in the 1970s, with studies suggesting a link.

However it wasn’t until 1982 when scientists began to take the possible correlation seriously, when researchers found a 92% increased risk of ovarian cancer among users.

There have been 22 studies conducted to observe the link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer, heeding similar results.

When talcum powder is applied to the genital area, the talc particles can travel through the fallopian tubes and eventually embedded themselves in the ovaries.

After being dormant for several years, the talc particles later fester and can cause the ovarian cancer to quickly progress.

A 2006 study conducted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer had found “limited evidence” of talcum powder cancer; however, the medical experts stated that even though it is unlikely that there is a causation relationship, users should still be cautious of the possibility.

Christine’s baby powder cancer lawsuit alleges Johnson & Johnson and other associated companies had known the risks regarding the alleged connection, but had chosen to omit the information.

She is filing legal action against Johnson & Johnson for failing to warn her against talcum powder cancer, as well as other counts of negligence.

Women or their loved ones who developed ovarian cancer after using talcum powder may be eligible to file their own baby powder cancer lawsuit and should contact a specialized lawyer.
