MyLife.com is a Scam, Says Class Action Lawsuit
By Sarah Pierce

MyLife.com

Are the people behind Classmates.com back to their old tricks? That’s what a federal class action lawsuit is claiming.

The class action lawsuit accuses the company behind Classmates.com of preying on new victims by rebranding itself as MyLife.com after it lost a class action lawsuit last year. Classmates.com was sued in 2008 for defrauding consumers out of money by using spam emails that falsely stated individuals and past acquaintances were trying to contact them. Classmates.com settled the class action lawsuit last year for $9.5 million, but the crew behind Classmates.com has continued the scam under the new name MyLife.com, says the class action.

According to the MyLife class action lawsuit:

“MyLife.com is a scam that begins with a false solicitation telling potential victims that ‘someone’ is searching for them, and they can find out who by paying a small fee. If this ruse succeeds in convincing the victim to provide credit card or other payment information for a ‘free trial period’ or a low-price membership ($9.95 per month), MyLife then overbills the victim’s credit card for a much larger amount, often more than $100. In exchange for this payment, MyLife provides access to a list of fake names of people supposedly ‘searching for you,’ together with access to a worthless website that is of no conceivable value to anyone.”

As if that’s not bad enough, the class action continues, “MyLife hacks into their address books to target their friends, family and other contacts with spam solicitations stating that ‘someone’ is looking for them. This starts the cycle anew by priming the pump with a fresh crop of victims that MyLife tricks with false solicitation, overbills and hacks.”

The MyLife class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all persons, worldwide, who purchased services from www.mylife.com, from the date the site commenced operation through the present. It is also seeking to certify a subclass of all class members who purchased services from MyLife for personal, family or household purposes. It is seeking damages, restitution and other relief.

  1. David Pendegrast says:

MyLife has an entire life that is not me. I have tried to dispute all of the information but am told the following:

“MyLife aggregates publicly available information from government, social, and other sources, plus personal reviews written by others. This third-party data is then indexed through methods similar to those used by Google or Bing to create a listing. Because MyLife only collects this data and does not create it, we cannot fully guarantee its accuracy.”

This is absolutely criminal!! These people are causing folks to lose jobs, financial security, even relationships. This is incredible!!

    1. Bill Jackson says:

I’ve the seen the data they is collected. It’s not accurate. They even have my picture next to a name who is not me. Wow! Definitely criminal. Hopefully our legal system will put all the folks who run the company behind bars.

      1. Davis says:

I need help to put these assholes at mylife out of business permanently. I need to contact some of the people that they have scammed.

  2. Melinda says:

It has my name on there with a mans picture and I dont even know who the man is.. And other info that I never gave nobody permission to share

  3. Shaun Malone says:

Yesterday I was denied a bank account because when the bank did a quick google of me, MyLife came up saying that I had a criminal record. (which I do not) I came home and googled myself, and sure enough, up comes a bright red box saying that I do indeed have arrests (I do not) and criminal records. I had to pay in order to see what they were saying about me.

All they had listed was a traffic violation from over 30 years ago, when I was a teenager, that had actually been dismissed! because I had taken defensive driving in order to get it dismissed from my record. This is what they had, which you have to pay to see the details. When someone uses the free site without paying, it calls me a criminal, and this has actually prevented me from opening a bank account.

Even though I paid, I cannot change the listing. They have my email and birthdate listed publicly as well.

It also said that if I paid more, I could lock down the info, and so I did, and when I locked it down, I did a search using a different computer and it still came up.

I would love to know if anyone else has had this happen, and organize a lawsuit based on real damages this company causes people.

we need to find a class action lawyer to go after these people without remorse.

      1. S A says:

Yes, the red flag groups together small and large blemishes in what must be an unlawful manner. How their site is legal is beyond me.

      2. Tat says:

YES….says I have an arrest or criminal record…I don’t. This has to be stopped!

    2. Mark Sacher says:

Same for me! It says I have an incarceration or public record and that I have a reputation score of 2.85 and a review of me. How can this be legal? It is entirely inaccurate. I hope a class action lawsuit gets this company shredded.

  4. Johnnie Mathis says:

The site is very misleading and damaging good people. The reputation score is a joke how are they to judge people without all the facts not to mention all the other complaints this site has against them. They are just running a scam to make money. They should be shut down I guess when they hit the wrong person it will be it for them but why should It take that for it to happen. I understand background checks are sometimes are needed ,but not without proper information. This site does have a lot of misleading information and errors.I cant understand why this site is allowed to operate like this. They must be a law somewhere to enforce to stop this.

  5. Timothy T Lowery says:

This Company is destroying and exposing court records of mine that have been paid in full over fifteen to twenty years ago ?? Isn’t there a Statute of Limitations in this country anymore ?? I have never filed bankruptcy and have paid my past debts with humility , now this Company is showing my court records to everyone that wants to see them ?? I need an attorney that will help me Please ??

  6. Brian Levine says:

They shouldn’t have sued them for being a scam. They should have sued them for extorting money out of people to view the information that was gathered about them for accuracy. Its kind of like blackmail. I’m in for the next lawsuit.

    1. Sean Romin says:

I want to join the lawsuit too if a new one pops up.

    2. Nina Helme says:

Yes 4 times they have taken money out of my account with out permission. Finially they erased my profile only to find not one but 3 other profiles. Some are down right hysterical while the others are damaging an put me as a evil women with another race a pic of God knows who and I have 9 kids and a millionare. And 7 arrest, 15 liens. 6 lawsuits but i am a millionare. WTF

  7. Suzanna says:

I want to find and join a lawsuit that deals with them not allowing me to remove or hide my data unless I pay for their premium service to do so. My information is being held hostage by them. They keep emailing me and are displaying on their website that I have a criminal record but I don’t, and they will not remove it unless I pay them.

    1. jeanne chesnowitz says:

I would like to join a group to SUE MyLife. The most destructive part of the SHAM: that they are working is through GOOGLE. Up to now, all one has to do is google names and be brought to pages whereby one may CHOOSE from different data information companies.
NOT SO with this company, We are brought DIRECTLY TO THE SITE AND I was branded as having a CRIMINAL RECORD. ALL this without choosing to get indepth info. or even pay.

      1. Head Postmistriss says:

I looked at your My life, it appears to be accurate in your case. You did have many run ins with the law. And many complaints about your scams are true. Nice try

    2. TS says:

I’m in. Have you had any traction?

I went to this site in 2013 to see what it was about. I clicked on the option to not automatically bill me monthly. I went back again because I kept getting emails with some stupid alerts. When I logged in I was somehow set up with automatic payments. First they tried to charge my bank and I was able to dispute those charges. Later, the moved on to my Capital One charge. This occurred even though I had changed Capital One cards. So, today I learned they have been charging my credit card for over a year.

  9. Anonymous says:

MyLife.com is a total ripoff, luckily I saw through their BS and didn’t pay a dime. I got the hint right away when their “free membership” allows you to do nothing except access their “member upgrade page” where you have to pay! No loss anyway, It’s nothing but a mix of fake names along with real names/addresses from easily obtainable public records. They do lie about people trying to contact you too, only one contacting me is them!

  10. Anonymous says:

In July I was ripped off by MyLife.com. The site intentionally confuses you to believe that you are paying less, then makes you believe that you are getting some real deal with their search service. When the amount comes up, it doesn’t give you an option to cancel. Gotcha. Too late sucker. Then it gets worse when you check your credit card and find that there are TWO charges!!! Each over $100!! Hook, line, and sinker. You’re sunk. Stay FAR away from this bunch!! FAR FAR AWAY. Wish I could figure out how to be a part of the class action suit. I’d love to stick it to them, like they did me.
