Mercedes-Benz pistons class action lawsuit overview:ย
- Who: Lena Jamil filed a class action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC.ย
- Why: Jamil claims Mercedes-Benz sold vehicles equipped with defective M274 engines containing pistons that prematurely fail, forcing full-engine replacements.ย
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.ย
Mercedes-Benz sold vehicles equipped with defective M274 engines that contain pistons prone to premature failure, a new class action lawsuit alleges.ย
Plaintiff Lena Jamil claims Mercedes-Benz failed to disclose the alleged defect, which she argues requires a full engine replacement to be needed,ย to customers who purchased or leased affected vehicles.ย
Jamil argues piston failures like the ones that allegedly occur in the affected Mercedes-Benz vehicles do not occur in modern day vehicles โabsent a defect.โย
Despite this, Mercedes-Benz never disclosed that the โpremature piston failure her car had experiencedโ was due to a โprevalent defect to the M274 engineโ known to the automaker, the Mercedes-Benz class action alleges.ย
Mercedes-Benz class action claims automaker declined to cover engine replacement costs
Mercedes-Benz declined to cover any of the costs of repair for Jamilโs vehicle after it required an engine replacement after only 95,000 miles on account of the alleged defect, according to the Mercedes-Benz pistons class action.ย
โWith neither MBUSA nor its dealer agreeing to cover any cost of the repair, Plaintiff was left to pay for this repair out of her own pocket in order to have an operable car, and she did so,โ the lawsuit states.ย
Jamil wants to represent a California class of consumers who have owned or leased a Mercedes-Benz vehicle equipped with an M274 engine.ย
She accuses Mercedes-Benz of violating Californiaโs Consumer Legal Remedies Act, Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act and Unfair Competition Law.ย
Jamil demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief along with an award of punitive damages for herself and all class members.ย
Earlier this year, a federal judge in Georgia ruled Mercedes-Benz must face claims it sold model year 2015-2019 C-Class vehicles that suffer from a manufacturing defect that causes them to leak raw fuel within their engine compartment.ย

i have a 2017 GLC and the piston broke. Replace new engine for $9000 at 109000 miles
I have an early build 2015 c300 that was affected by the wrist pins. I brought the car to the dealer numerous times over the course of 4 years and complained about the loud noises. It was never fixed and the engine failed at 68,000 miles. I reached out to MB Corporate and they refused to help me. I sued the dealer in small claims for $10K and won. The technical bulletins described the exact noise and shaking that I complained about each time I brought my car in while it was under warranty. They neglected to fix it while it was under warranty. I would like to pursue a lawsuit against corporate.
In 2020 I had purchased a Mercedes Benz 2016 GLC. Please add me to this suit.
Purchased 2015 Mercedes GLA250 in 2017. Cylinder 2 caused engine failure in 2020 with 56,000 miles. Paid $9,600 for new engine replaced in July of 2020. Engine just failed again with 54,000 miles on it. Changed the oil always before their recommended 10K mile interval. Both times Mercedes told me they are not interested in helping with the bill. Trying to decide now, 3-2-23 if we should bail on the car or replace another 50K mile engine for $11,500 this time.
I purchased a 2014 Mercedes Benz GLK350 in December 2022 the sunroof made a whistling noise the other day and the engine has always smelled hot.
I had a similar issue with my 2015 c300. cylinder one had issues I was told by the dealership in California to replace the engine $26,000 why ? My car only had 50,000 miles. a second mechanic looked at it and told me about an issue on The early C 300 Mercedes had. But it was corrected on the later models but no recall was issued. Why is there no class action suit against Mercedes these cars should last more than 50,000 miles ..
I have this issue with my 2015 c300 here in Arizona. It is at 69k in miles and the #1 cylinder has little to no pressure and makes a loud knocking noise at low speeds/idle. I had ZERO issues with the car in the 2 years i have owned it. Mercedes states that the entire engine needs to be replaced and I asked if this was some sort of recall they said it was not, which I HIGHLY doubt. All the symptoms I have read are the same that i have.
*update* I am now paying 9k to get the engine swapped out by an independent mechanic-please add me to the lawsuit.
I have experienced a similar issue with my 2019 A220. I live in Georgia. MB is saying my cylinder head needs to be replaced and fixing it would 7,500.00. I thought I had 8 months of Powertrain warranty left but MB stated it is null because I am over mileage. I am left with no reliable transportation to commute to work and I work an hour away from my residence. If I get rid of the car it will cause my credit score to suffer. I am left with a few options.
My 2017 E300 same engine m274 with 38,000 miles Poston cracked cylinder #1 horrible
This exact issue that just happened to my wifes MBs a few weeks ago here in Kansas City. My wife was driving on the highway when this happened and could barely get off the highway, very dangerous and scary for her. She has a 2016 with 65,000 miles on it. I contacted Mercedes they said thereโs nothing they would do about as it not a known issue. Now my vehicle is sitting in a repair shop and the repair shop says that if Iโm not going to fix it I have to get it out of there. The repair shop said it will cost somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000 to repair and if i cont fix it i still owe $1000 for time to diagnose the issue. VERY Frustrated!
Please reach out to Roy A. Katriel of The Katriel Law Firm and Ralph B. Kalfayan of The Kalfayan Law Firm. My 2016 C300 seized driving and thankfully I was in the slow lane so I was able to pull off safely but it could have been a lot worse. The more states included on the lawsuit, the more pressure Mercedes will feel!
I have a 2015 c300 with the same engine m274 issue I have only 80.000 miles on this vehicle the car is the shop now there are telling me that it going to need a replacement motor and itโs going to run me $15,000 for repairs.
