LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.ย
  • Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.ย

Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LGโ€™s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered โ€œinoperableโ€ due to the alleged LED control panel defect.ย

Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.ย

The water damage eventually renders the dishwasherโ€™s control panel โ€œunresponsiveโ€ and makes it so that it can no longer be used to โ€œcommence a wash cycle as expected or intended,โ€ the LG class action alleges.ย

Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.ย

โ€œAlthough LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashersโ€™ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,โ€ the LG class action states.ย

LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail

Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a โ€œnon-defective replacement component,โ€ which will also โ€œlikewise fail shortly after installation.โ€ย

โ€œBecause LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,โ€ the LG class action states.ย

Further, Wheeler argues LG adds โ€œinsult to injuryโ€ by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year โ€œlabor and partsโ€ warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.ย

Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.ย

Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.ย

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.ย ย

LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.ย

  1. Kelly A Collins says:

I am having the same problem with our lg quad dishwasher, not draining or cleaning the dishes. Also the wheels of the bottom rack all popped off and wont stay on the tracks. This defect makes it almost impossible to unload the dishes without straining all your arm muscles. This shoddy dishwasher is not even 2 years old.

  2. Sam Warehime says:

We are having the same control panel issue with our LG dishwasher.

  3. Robin Premo says:

We have an LG dishwasher and it has never really worked well. Now we have to maneuver the door to get it to lock into place and ensure the led light clicks and connects to turn on. Some days we get it to work and in the middle of washing all kinds of alarms occur and it shuts down. So frustrating what recourse can we do?

    1. Nicholas T Johnson says:

We have a lg dishwasher that itโ€™s control panel doesnโ€™t work and Iโ€™ve already had it fixed once and paid out of pocket

  4. Jolene F Kenney says:

We have had our lg dishwasher for leas than a year and it sucks! It doesnโ€™t drain correctly and now the control panel is out. Got from home depot and they are giving us the run around are still paying foe this dishwasher! How can I get in on the lawsuit?

  5. Sam says:

I hope it is covered in lawsuit; itโ€™s the same problem. Very easy to replace, but if it is the same problem then why bother? Part is around $200 +/- $30 or so. LG service call charges $300 with the part. If itโ€™s still occuring, then the part design is defective also. I canโ€™t see how condensation etc will ruin the part as the entire circuit/control panel is enclosed in molded plastic except for the wire connector to the board. Horrible!

    1. Jess says:

I bought my appliances back in 2019. Dishwasher has had to have the mother board replaced already and every few months it stops draining water and my dishes are dirty. Of course nothing else is covered. I also had to have my control panel replaced in the refrigerator because it freezes my food and first bite all over my freezer items. The parts on the inside cracked within a year. My stove forget it. The self clean does not work properly. The top gets stained even if itโ€™s some water. Total crap appliances and I paid almost 4 grand for them. Beyond aggravated!!!!

  6. Sam says:

Same issue here; been like that for at least a year with my tenants but I didnโ€™t pay attention to it until now. Same issue!

  7. Tammy Stringer says:

I purchased the QuadWash in January of 2023 and the front control panel started going crazy on me yesterday (October 24, 2023). I have the original purchase receipt. I would not have bought this dishwasher if I had known of the issues with it. This dishwasher was on the higher end cost wise compared to other models. This is frustrating to discover that this has been an ongoing issue. Please feel free to contact me to for any information in regards to this. I hope to see an end to this type of deception.

  8. Cari skiles says:

Bought ours in 2017 as a package deal. Right side panel (power side) illuminates but I cannot select a cycle. Iโ€™ve troubleshot the hell out of it. Nothing. I talked to Bennin customer service at LG ( took all evening to get someone) and basically was given a repair shop near me. Thatโ€™s it. He wouldnโ€™t even give me a parts number for replacement control panel. Iโ€™ll never buy LG again. Please keep informed on class action. Thank you

  9. Andy Ramirez-Hilton says:

My LG dishwasher is constantly shitting off. The LED panel goes berserk and flashes or just wonโ€™t show anything. This has been a problem since we bought the dishwasher. Have reached out to LG regarding this and nothing has been done.

  10. Diane Reed says:

My Lg dishwasher control panel went crazy last week. Just had a service call and ordered a new part for $240. Will this be covered in the lawsuit?
