LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.
  • Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LG’s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered “inoperable” due to the alleged LED control panel defect.

Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.

The water damage eventually renders the dishwasher’s control panel “unresponsive” and makes it so that it can no longer be used to “commence a wash cycle as expected or intended,” the LG class action alleges.

Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.

“Although LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashers’ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,” the LG class action states.

LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail

Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a “non-defective replacement component,” which will also “likewise fail shortly after installation.”

“Because LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,” the LG class action states.

Further, Wheeler argues LG adds “insult to injury” by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year “labor and parts” warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.

Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.

LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.

Same exact issue here. Bought an LG dishwasher and within 2-3 months started getting the 6E error code. Spent almost 4 weeks and several visits from the repairman swapping out parts (cheapest to most expensive) where the entire time our dishwasher wouldn’t drain. We were even told that the problem was the drain piping in our cabinets running from the dishwasher to the sink (which was the same plumbing we had been using for years with a previous dishwasher) and had to replace that before they would send someone out to look again.

Finally, after practically everything had been replaced (including the plumbing to the sink) they agreed to swap out the main board and the issue immediately went away. Did I mention that total time we spent with this issue was almost half a year? So of course we bought a 2 year extended warranty having no faith that this problem wouldn’t come back and it just did the other day. Now our dishwasher won’t even turn on.

I have this same issue. Panel blinks after about halfway through the first cycle of the day. Sometimes it finishes other times it doesn’t. I purchased this in Feb 2022. 17 months of working then this. I called LG to have them tell me I have no warranty after a year and no right to sue to to an arbitration clause buried in the owners manual. They continually attempted to push their service tech on me saying I had to cover all costs. I will not be buying LG again. For anything.

I purchased a LG Dishwasher late last year 2022 from Home Deport. The make and model are the same as the Civil Action Law Suit. The dishwasher has not worked for more than a week at a time. The error code: AE keeps showing up which appears to be a control board issue. My daughter has called Home Depot and LG and got the proverbial run around. This plus the fact both companies are trying to hide the defective piece of equipment from us consumers as neither company sent out a recall notification. I had to buy a new dishwasher and have to pay for delivery, installation and removal of the old dishwasher. Please include me in the law suit.

I have a top of the line LG dishwasher it is 5 years old as d stopped working. A repairman said it would cost around 500 to 800 to repair

  5. Terri says:

We are currently having this problem. Our dishwasher is a year and a half old.

I have a LG quad wash and the control panel is defective

  6. Lorie Laux says:

I’d like to add another comment. We calked Costco and they sent an LG repairman out to fix the errors issue! Guess what he said? He can’t fix it because he is not seeing it. The pictures of the codes I got did nothing. Also he said LG has Never had any class action suits! He also recommends NOT using liquid detergent (I don’t anyways). But why did the book say to?
Also he recommends only using the heavy cycle. My mind is really frustrated! Fancy dishwasher with fancy buttons I can’t use?! 5 month old dishwasher? My first codes had to do with the heating element. The fact is turning off and giving odd error codes definitely suggest the Panel. He left! Wow

  7. Tonya Laubscher says:

I have had my dishwasher just under 2 years and the control panel was deemed as having cracks in it and now is inoperable from their faulty workmanship. I am now battling with LG on getting the dishwasher repaired and having to pay out of pocket for the repairs.

  8. Lorie Laux says:

I purchased an LG dishwasher 5 months ago and ice only used it about a dozen times (just myself and hubby at home) so far I’ve had 2 errors! The error just now is 6E. This is frustrating me because it was not cheap to purchase (from Costco)

  9. Kristin Villwock says:

Yes! Same thing happened to ours.

  10. Shane Jones says:

Exact same thing happened within 1-2 years of my Quadwash — if you run it everyday the board starts doing the ‘blinking beeping’ circus and eventually stops working until you let it sit for a week and all the moisture to leave the unit.. now I am forced to use it only in Turbo mode and no more than every other day. What a piece of junk!!!
