LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:
- Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.
- Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.
LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LG’s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered “inoperable” due to the alleged LED control panel defect.
Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.
The water damage eventually renders the dishwasher’s control panel “unresponsive” and makes it so that it can no longer be used to “commence a wash cycle as expected or intended,” the LG class action alleges.
Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.
“Although LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashers’ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,” the LG class action states.
LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail
Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a “non-defective replacement component,” which will also “likewise fail shortly after installation.”
“Because LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,” the LG class action states.
Further, Wheeler argues LG adds “insult to injury” by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year “labor and parts” warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.
Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.
Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.
LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.

LDT7808ST Model broke twice already in 3 years both control panel issues
I’m in the middle of this right now. The control panel is dead, the repair man said the control board is dead due to moisture. Going to cost me $400 I don’t have to replace the board.
I have a QuadWash 42-Decibel Hidden (Top) 24-in Built-In Dishwasher (Stainless Steel) ENERGY STAR
Model #LDT7808SS purchased in October 2020 and the control panel has failed as of 5/21/2023. It continually beeps and requires me to shut the breaker off in order to turn the unit off. It beeps the entire time it is running (if I can get it to start) and beeps after it finishes and does not stop until you turn the unit off.
We purchased one in 2021 and the wiring harness started to smoke today 05/23. I guess its back to GE and the rest of the brands I have used before.
My son bought me GE dishwasher I never used.. one day I just turned it on. Water ran I hit the drain cycle,, it cut off , so may a month later I smelled something stale water open dishwasher standing water!! I hit the cycle it just stand in clicking and clinking!! I called the company they sent someone out. At first they want a service charge since warranty was expired!! Drop the service charge!! Guy said I have to have someone to pull it out!! What? He dipped the water out and disconnected the washer machine!! So now I never used it! Still have receipt!
I have also purchased an LG quad dishwasher. Replaced the control panel once a now the racks are falling apart. Wheels have broken off. I also have little pieces of white plastic pieces that I find inside the dishwasher with little silver metal balls. I can only run the dishwasher on one wash cycle and it has to air dry. I paid $900.+ for this thinking it was a good dishwasher. Guess I was wrong.
You should look into the front loading washers as well. My control panel is cracked and it must be happening enough that there is a YouTube video that shows you how to replace one in this exact same model (the combo washer/ dryer. ). Not even owned a year yet and the panel is cracked in 2 places and 2 small pieces have fallen out. The plastic is junk.
I have an LG LDTT7797ST purchased and installed on 3/8/2018 and within the first several months I noticed the control panel spontaneously cracked (from steam heat?) and it occasionally stops responding to button presses. If I unplug the power for a bit and plug it back in it usually works for another month or two. I believe it’s also getting moisture into the panel. It appears this is a common issue that LG isn’t addressing.
We purchased the LDP6810SS from Lowe’s less than two years ago. The control panel began cracking a couple of months ago. The unit is still operational but suspect it’s a matter of time before steam and moisture impact the control panel electronics.
We purchased a new construction house on 12/14/2023. It came with LG appliances including an LDFN454HT Dishwasher. It appears a screw was over-tightened that holds the control panel onto the door. Cracks have formed in the plastic and a chip has fallen out. The largest crack is spreading down into the front of the panel. It’s clearly bad workmanship. The plastic control panel clearly can’t take normal use without damage.
