Two more women have come forward with talcum powder lawsuits against pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. The women, both California residents, allege that Johnson & Johnson actively concealed a link between its popular baby powder product Shower to Shower and ovarian cancer.
The plaintiffs, Lynda M. and Carrie S., filed their talcum powder lawsuits in recent months. The talcum powder lawsuits cite several studies linking regular use of talcum baby powder in the genital area increases a woman’s risk of ovarian cancer. According to these talcum powder lawsuits, Johnson & Johnson was actually aware of this risk, having seen scientific evidence.
Instead of warning the public about the risk, the company allegedly chose to keep promoting the product as safe and effective, placing company profit over consumer safety.
These are far from the first talcum powder lawsuits to come into play. In fact, Johnson & Johnson is currently facing more than 5,500 of these talcum powder lawsuits, each filed over a connection between ovarian cancer and the use of baby powder for feminine hygiene.
A few of these talcum powder lawsuits have been very high-profile, leading to judgments of tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars.
Baby Powder and Ovarian Cancer
Baby powder products like Johnson & Johnson’s popular Shower to Shower have been widely used for years, and not just for babies—countless women use these products for feminine hygiene purposes.
Johnson & Johnson has actively marketed its baby powder product as a feminine hygiene product, and countless women have used it in this very manner. Unfortunately, a growing number of women who have used baby powder for feminine hygiene purposes for years or even decades are now being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Some have begun filing talcum powder lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson, claiming that by marketing the product as safe and effective as a feminine hygiene product, the company misrepresented the actual safety of its product.
This may pose a serious risk for thousands, since generations of women have made baby powder part of their daily routine for decades.
Ovarian Cancer
According to the National Cancer Institute, ovarian cancer and related cancers are the fifth leading cause of cancer fatalities in United States women. There are very few early symptoms of ovarian cancer, so this disease is usually not discovered until much later, in the later and more dangerous stages.
Filing Talcum Powder Lawsuits
If you or someone you love has used Johnson & Johnson’s Shower to Shower or a similar baby powder product, especially as part of a regular hygiene routine, and have been given an ovarian cancer diagnosis, you may be able to file a baby powder lawsuit.
While filing talcum powder lawsuits cannot take away the pain and suffering of ovarian cancer, and cannot bring a loved one back to life, they can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
