2007 Jeep LibertyA federal class action lawsuit claims Chrysler Group sold and leased 2002-2007 Jeep Liberties with defective window parts that cannot be repaired.

The defective Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit alleges Chrysler designed, manufactured, sold and leased 2002-2007 Jeep Liberties containing permanently defective Window Regulators that cannot be successfully repaired, despite repeated attempts to do so.

“The defective Window Regulators cause the windows in the Covered Vehicles to bind, stick, tip forward, chatter and fall to the bottom of the door. Often the windows suddenly and loudly fall or drop out of position and down into the inside of the door frames. These failures occur when the windows are in a partially or closed position. The windows also stick in all positions, including closed, partially closed and totally open. In these instances, it is impossible to move the window to open or close it further. These failures occur while the motor is off and while it is running; the failures also occur while the Covered Vehicles are standing still and while the Vehicles are being operated at all speeds,” states the Jeep Liberties class action lawsuit.

“These sudden, loud and crashing failures result in a shocking exposure to weather and debris, putting the driver and passengers, including children, at great risk of danger. Moreover, the unexpected inability to close or open a failed window poses a substantial and unacceptable safety risk for persons and property inside the vehicles. As a result of these defective Regulators, the Covered Vehicles are unfit for the use for which they were intended in that they cannot be driven safely.”

The Jeep Liberty defective window regulator class action lawsuit continues to say that since these vehicles are manufactured, marketed, advertised, sold and leased by Chrysler as “off-road” vehicles, that the defect prevents the exact use for which the Jeep Liberties were intended because the regulators sometimes fail with any jarring or an uneven roadway.

Even after vehicle owners attempt to repair the defective Jeep Liberty window regulators, the class action lawsuit claims the regulators continue to fail and break because Chrysler “merely replaces the defective parts with identical defective parts.”

The Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of a proposed class of individuals and entities nationwide who purchased or leased a model year 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty manufactured by Chrysler Group. The class action also includes a state-specific California subclass. It is asking that Chrysler promptly repair and/or replace all defective window regulators for free, award damages and restitution to class members, and provide other relief.

UPDATE: The plaintiff in this case voluntarily dismissed the Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit in February 2011, and later joined a new class action lawsuit filed by lead plaintiff Steven Doyle in April 2013. That case continues with a May 1, 2014 motion by Chrysler to dismiss. Plaintiff lawyers shot back on May 1, urging a federal judge to deny the motion.

I HAVE A 2004 Liberty with windows that fell. One is in back and we have it up but he other is front passenger side and we can’t get it to stay u. It’s 10 degrees now. How can I enter the lawsuit?

I bought my 2005 liberty new and had the first window failure in 2012. Glass did not break, just fell down into the door. Call me lucky. Yesterday the second rear window fell down into the door. I came back to my vehicle after work and there was my jeep sitting with the window wide open. I have tools and stuff in the back. Thankfully nothing was taken. If it had happened last month, the jeep would have been sitting in an airport parking lot for a couple of weeks, free for the taking….in the car theft capital of the U.S.
I will not go back to the dealership and replace a faulty piece with another faulty piece of @/&$! There are now aftermarket alternatives with a different design (wire cable pull instead of the worm drive) for around $100. Why can’t Chrysler fess up and do the right thing?

  4. Julie A Garcia says:

I own a 2007 Jeep Liberty. I have had to fix every window regulator at least ONCE and some more than that. I seldom use the back windows as I am usually the only person in my vehicle. Sometimes I would open and close the windows just to make sure the unit was used but when I would, the window would get stuck down and, if I was lucky, I would push the window back into place and it would remain closed. Sometimes it would not close and I would have to take it to be repaired right away. I live in a major metropolitan area and could not leave my car unattended w/ a window wide open.

Can I still make a claim? I have receipts.

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD. I have replaced three window regulators. (at $308.00) per pop. I drive alone and the back windows were never used. Both of those were changed out. How do I sign up for this class action lawsuit. I also have a problem with the brakes, multiple brake shoe replacement and finally have the ESS, ABS, light which won’t go off. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE LAWSUIT.

How do I join the class action lawsuit?

  8. Brenda Bedded says:

I had the front driver side window drop in my 2004 Jeep Liberty several years ago and after months of negotiation with Chrysler got some assistance with the repair cost. My rear driver side window dropped two years ago and I had a mechanic secure it in the up position which lasted until recently. Now it is duck taped closed. This past week my passenger side front window dropped into the door. That’s now three out of four!… Cant leave anything in the car. I often have my grandchildren with me and I no longer feel safe going out in the evening. Definitely a safety issue. Will call Monday and express my frustration about this situation.

What does this mean? I understand it was dismissed in February but opened by another, is there a recall or way to get the windows fixed? What was the final verdict? Curious because I have 2 back windows duct taped up now to keep my 2 children from getting wet during rain in my 02 liberty.

      1. Rayma Villafane says:

two of my 2006 jeep Liberty windows have failed

DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE

Has there been any settlement??? I bought my 2002 Jeep Liberty in 1/2008 in excellent condition. Since then my rear windows have both gone out twice and the front passenger once. That is 5 times at approximately $300 per window!! And I rarely use the rear windows. I called Chrysler and they say my car is too old for them to help with costs on this obviously defective part. Please let me know if there is a settlement. I would like to get compensated for the cost of this defective part.
