2007 Jeep LibertyA federal class action lawsuit claims Chrysler Group sold and leased 2002-2007 Jeep Liberties with defective window parts that cannot be repaired.

The defective Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit alleges Chrysler designed, manufactured, sold and leased 2002-2007 Jeep Liberties containing permanently defective Window Regulators that cannot be successfully repaired, despite repeated attempts to do so.

“The defective Window Regulators cause the windows in the Covered Vehicles to bind, stick, tip forward, chatter and fall to the bottom of the door. Often the windows suddenly and loudly fall or drop out of position and down into the inside of the door frames. These failures occur when the windows are in a partially or closed position. The windows also stick in all positions, including closed, partially closed and totally open. In these instances, it is impossible to move the window to open or close it further. These failures occur while the motor is off and while it is running; the failures also occur while the Covered Vehicles are standing still and while the Vehicles are being operated at all speeds,” states the Jeep Liberties class action lawsuit.

“These sudden, loud and crashing failures result in a shocking exposure to weather and debris, putting the driver and passengers, including children, at great risk of danger. Moreover, the unexpected inability to close or open a failed window poses a substantial and unacceptable safety risk for persons and property inside the vehicles. As a result of these defective Regulators, the Covered Vehicles are unfit for the use for which they were intended in that they cannot be driven safely.”

The Jeep Liberty defective window regulator class action lawsuit continues to say that since these vehicles are manufactured, marketed, advertised, sold and leased by Chrysler as “off-road” vehicles, that the defect prevents the exact use for which the Jeep Liberties were intended because the regulators sometimes fail with any jarring or an uneven roadway.

Even after vehicle owners attempt to repair the defective Jeep Liberty window regulators, the class action lawsuit claims the regulators continue to fail and break because Chrysler “merely replaces the defective parts with identical defective parts.”

The Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of a proposed class of individuals and entities nationwide who purchased or leased a model year 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty manufactured by Chrysler Group. The class action also includes a state-specific California subclass. It is asking that Chrysler promptly repair and/or replace all defective window regulators for free, award damages and restitution to class members, and provide other relief.

UPDATE: The plaintiff in this case voluntarily dismissed the Jeep Liberty class action lawsuit in February 2011, and later joined a new class action lawsuit filed by lead plaintiff Steven Doyle in April 2013. That case continues with a May 1, 2014 motion by Chrysler to dismiss. Plaintiff lawyers shot back on May 1, urging a federal judge to deny the motion.

Third time is a charm!! Fixing another window for the third time in my car today. Not so great with infant twins in the backseat and the weather is 20 degrees and you can’t roll up the window. Have spent time and money for repairs and would love to get reimbursed.

I have a 2006 Liberty. It has happened three times now and lots of money has gone into the window regulators. There SHOULD be a recall and Chrysler SHOULD replace each part with a stronger part. It is certainly a safety issue, especially when it happens while driving on the highway. If there is a lawsuit I’ll be joining it.

i bought a 2007 liberty new right off the lot, within 2 years both my backseat windows went during the summer, and i never even used them. Just yesterday i was driving and i heard a giant pop trying to pull up my driver side front window, and now that no longer works! 3 out of 4 windows are currently duck taped shut. I want in this is BS.

I have had my windows repaired in my 2007 Jeep Liberty 8-10 times…I lost count! Very much an inconvenience and hassle. The fabric on my seats is also defective. Even spilled water stains! I will never buy another Jeep! I would like in on a lawsuit for these obvious defects.

In the same situation with a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Very much would like more information on this lawsuit. Started just today filing my complaints with the NHTSA, Attorney Genral of Michigan and anyone else I can run across. Very much a safety issue all the way around!

By the way, I forgot to mention, after doing research, I learned that the car window plastic brackets were suppose to be steel brackets and that’s why the windows are weak, break easily and won’t work or cannot be repaired. I guess steel is too expensive for Chrysler Jeep, I think this class action lawsuit is more painful.

I brought my 2006 jeep in 2008. I have called and complained to Chrylser Jeep Headquarters, call center, etc. and given different case numbers, numerous of times with different issues i.e. leaky roof, 3 windows broken and was told I needed to pay to have them repaired. I was told that I needed to have a $100.00 diagnostic test done. I did after the test, I was told by the Chrylser rep that my Power control module (PCM) have a manufacture defect and that I should call the Chrysler Headquarters in order to get help with the cost and repairs, I called and they then told me that they can provide the mechanic but I would have to pay for all the repairs. I’ve been complaining to them for the last 4 years. For the last 1 1/2 years, my car won’t and can’t even pass a simple inspection test because all of the lights on the dashboard including the check engine light stays on continuously. I was told by headquarters that they were sorry that I got swindled. I am so frustrated I have lost so much money in this car, it is sad and to make matters worse, I am still making $400 monthly payments on a car that is practically useless, I would like to join the class action lawsuit as well. Please provide information. Thank you.
