Honda Civic Defective Brake System Class Action
By Matt O’Donnell

HondaThe braking system in 2008-2010 Honda Civics are defective, causing the front brake pads to wear out prematurely and putting drivers at significant risk, claims a class action lawsuit.

The Honda braking system class action lawsuit claims that even though Honda advertises how safe their Honda Civics are, they contain a defective braking system that requires the front brakes to be replaced every 10,000 to 15,000 miles – far more frequently than in a properly functioning braking system. Even though the brake defect is covered by Honda’s warranty, Honda has so far failed to repair the braking system defect under the warranty.

In addition to posing safety hazards, the cost to repair the braking system defect can be outrageous, forcing consumers to shell out hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to prematurely replace the brake pad rotors, calipers and other brake-related components as a result of the system defect. Furthermore, the class action lawsuit states, Honda knew about the braking system defect in Civics, but concealed the defect along with the dangerous safety problems and associated repair costs.

“Honda knows of the braking system defect and knows that consumers do not anticipate having to inspect or replace the Class Vehicles’ front brake pads every 10,000 to 15,000 miles. Nevertheless, Honda has not told current owners and lessees of the Class Vehicles about the defect, has not disclosed the defect to purchasers and lessees of Class Vehicles, and continues to promote the braking system on the Class Vehicles,” states the Honda Civic class action lawsuit

The Honda Civic defective break class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of two classes: (1) all current owners or lessees of a 2008-2010 Honda Civic; and (2) all former owners or lessees of a 2008-2010 Civic who paid for a repair related to the braking system. It is seeking damages, restitution and other relief.

I have 2011 Honda Civic with 8500 miles and a couple months ago at 7000 Honda Kolbe told me my car needed new brakes. I was so upset, I asked how come? this is my 3rd civic never got a problem, Honda Kolbe’s answear I brake too hard! I called the corporate and they took care of the repair so I didn’t have to pay for it . However Honda of America never admitted having a problem with the braking system.

I wish I knew they were defective. My Honda Civic 2010 i needed new rotors by Dec 2011. and I had break pads changed twice 9 months after I had my car and 8 months before I had to get new rotors. Is there anyone we can call to complain? I can’t wait for my lease to be up and get out of Honda. don’t like them. I miss my saturn.

I have to say I’m am very disappointed with the performance of this car, although it is very comfortable to drive and it gets me everywhere, Ive had to replace my brake pads at 8k miles and they actually covered them under warranty. I was told that I was being to hard on my brakes. 8 to 10k miles later, same problem AGAIN. I thought to my self, “could this be possible.” I called my honda dealer and explained the problem but they told me that I would have to pay 300+ dollars to replace my brakes. On top of this, after a little over a year of having the car, it fails to meet the promised gas milage. This is very unfortunate and I am a very disappointed costumer.

I have an 2007 8th generation civic My break pads need to be replaced every 8,000 kms knowing that I have a sporty style driving but that’s extremely fast wear and also they r not satisfactorily decelerating a car that heavy and with such a powerful engine… Disappointed … Honda engineers r destroying honda’s name with such breaks and suspension…

I have a 2008 civic and bought it new. The first 12 months the brakes and rotors had to be replaced and honda took responsibility for it the first time. Now every 12 months I have to replace the breaks with Honda brake pads only. Regular brake pads will only last 3 months top. I know the breaks are defective this is unnecessary expense.

My 2010 CivicI needed the brakes repaired at 7500 miles and told I was riding the brakes! At 29000 complete brakes — I was then told I must have hit something!
I have been driving for 50 years and never experienced this with any other vehicle. The dealer refused to cover the expenses and I KNOW the brakes are defective!
