Top Class Actions readers have been benefiting from class action settlements all year long!
While many class action settlements provide relatively small payouts, some provide a few hundred dollars. And then there are the settlements that exceed expectations, reaching into the thousands for Class Members.
This year, that figure hit the tens of thousands for TCA readers in at least three settlements!
Here we’ve rounded out TCA’s top 10 class action settlement payouts of the year:
1. Big Fish Casino Online Gambling Settlement
Topping the list is a whooping $57,000 check sent to a claimant in the Big Fish Casino class action lawsuit in July.
The TCA reader reported receiving the huge check after they filed a claim in the class action settlement with the online gaming platform. According to the class action lawsuit, the company allegedly violated Washington gambling laws. Other claimants also reported receiving payouts in the thousands.
The plaintiffs claimed the Big Fish Casino constituted illegal gambling because of the nature of the company’s games, where users allegedly wagered real money via in-app purchases.
2. Slotomania Gaming App Settlement
Coming in at second place is another gaming app settlement — and this time a claimant was sent a check totaling nearly $40,000.
A TCA reader reported being sent the check from Slotomania and House of Fun Casino in July after suing the parent companies of the games for violations of Washington’s gambling laws.
The plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit alleged Playtika and Caesars Interactive Entertainment broke the laws because their apps offered “free-to-play” games, then profited from users’ in-app coin purchases. The games named in the lawsuit were Slotomania, House of Fun, Caesars Casino/Caesars Slots and/or Vegas Downtown Slots.
3. Transvaginal Mesh Defect Settlement
In February, TCA readers who sued over defective transvaginal mesh reported receiving checks up to $21,646.17.
Other Class Members said they were sent payments of $14,431 and $7,215 in the Washington class action settlement with Johnson & Johnson, which agreed to pay $9.9 million to resolve claims its transvaginal mesh products are defective.
All Washington women who received transvaginal mesh implants were eligible to benefit from the settlement, with the state attorney general estimating that could be up to 45,000 women.
4. Levi’s Stadium Accessibility Settlement
Checks of up to $7,985.77 were mailed to TCA readers in July thanks to a settlement with Levi’s Stadium.
TCA readers involved in a class action lawsuit alleging the stadium violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) reported checks from the settlement ranged from $4,000 to $7,985.77.
The plaintiffs accused Levi’s Stadium — home of the San Francisco 49ers — along with stadium management companies and the city of Santa Clara of violating the ADA by failing to provide those with mobility disabilities equal access to its facilities. Class Members included those with mobility disabilities, along with their companions.
5. Checkers Data Breach Settlement
A TCA reader reported receiving a check for $4,000 this October as part of a Checkers settlement over a data breach that affected 100 U.S. locations between 2015 and 2019.
Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against Checkers and Rally’s alleged the restaurants mishandled the breach that allegedly went undetected while it was happening and compromised consumer payment information, such as card numbers, verification codes, and more.
The plaintiffs claimed that Checkers and Rally’s restaurants should have been aware of the risk of data breach issues due to the increasing threat posed by hackers.
6. Soboxone Drug Conspiracy Settlement
Checks for as much as $2,563.92 were sent to TCA readers in May who were prescribed the opioid addiction treatment Suboxone between 2013 and 2019. The checks were sent out after the Federal Trade Commission reached a $60 million settlement with the drug’s manufacturers.
The FTC alleged Indivior Inc. and subsidiary Reckitt Benckiser Group worked to prevent a lower-priced generic of its opioid addiction treatment Suboxone from getting in the way of the company’s sales.
The settlement benefited all U.S. consumers who were prescribed Suboxone Film.
7. Premarin Hormone Drug Misrepresentation Settlement
TCA readers reported getting checks for up to $1,853.67 in August as part of a $200 million Premarin settlement.
The plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused Wyeth Pharmaceuticals of misrepresenting its Premarin, Prempro, and Premphase hormone replacement therapy products and their associated risks.
The plaintiffs included California consumers who bought Premarin, Prempro, and/or Premphase in California between January 1995 and January 2003.
8. 1-800 Contacts Antitrust Settlement
In September, TCA readers reported receiving checks of more than $800 thanks to a settlement with 1-800 Contacts.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused the company of entering into anti-competitive agreements with other contact lens companies, allegedly ensuring the companies wouldn’t compete in online advertising and ensuring consumers would not be able to search online ads for the best deals on contacts. This resulted in consumers paying higher prices.
The $40 million settlement was given final approval in October 2020.
9. Fastenal Credit Card Receipt Settlement
Checks of as much $760 were mailed out in January to TCA readers who had made claims in a class action lawsuit against Fastenal.
The plaintiffs alleged Fastenal receipts revealed too much information about customers’ payment carts, including more than the last five digits of the card number and expiration date information.
The receipts allegedly violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) and Fastenal agreed to pay $1.3 million to settle the claims.
10. Navy Federal TCPA Settlement
Rounding out TCA’s list of the top 10 settlement payouts in 2021 is a $505 payout received by readers as part of the Navy Federal Credit Union Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) settlement.
Consumers who participated in the class action lawsuit claimed the credit union sent them unsolicited text messages without their permission.
Although Navy Credit Union admitted no wrongdoing, it agreed to pay out a total of $9.25 million to resolve the claims.

Received a Visa debit card for $427 for the Suboxone lawsuit. It was for purchasing only. Was not allowed to cash it out. Why? Why couldn’t I have my money when others received checks for their settlements? I thought it was odd to receive a lawsuit settlement that couldn’t be spent unless buying something with a card? Is this normal? I was very disappointed. I still have the card in my wallet.
