GMC Sierra Headlights Not Working Says Consumer Class Action LawsuitAs far back as a 2015 class action lawsuit, there have been a number of complaints about GMC Sierra headlights not working and being far too dim โ€“ making night driving dangerous.

In late 2015, plaintiffs Armando Becerra and Guillermo Ruela filed a class action lawsuit against General Motors about GMC Sierra headlights not working and claiming that the company was aware of the problem.

Becerra says he purchased a brand new 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Allegedly the GMC Sierraโ€™s headlights were not working due to a defect. He says this alleged defect affected his ability to drive at night with reasonable visibility. Becerra says returned the vehicle to the dealership in hopes of repairing the problem, but he was told that it could not be fixed and instead he had to purchase a new headlight assembly for $500.

Ruela says he experienced similar problems after purchasing the same model โ€” GMC Sierra headlights not working. He says he later attempted to resolve the problem by trading his 2014 model in for a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. However, he claims that General Motors did not fix the problem in the later model as he assumed and he still experienced insufficient headlight illumination.

The problems of GMC Sierra headlights not working is reportedly attributed to a design change starting with the 2014 truck. Before the 2014 model year, the GMC Sierra headlights used three separate bulbs for high beams, low beams, and fog lights. The combination of these three bulbs allowed for sufficient lighting and safe driving.

Starting with the 2014 model year, GMC Sierra headlight allegedly used only one single filament bulb for both the high and low beams. Plaintiffs claim that this change is the reason for GMC Sierra headlights not working. They also claim that, across the industry, combining high and low beams into one bulb calls for at least a dual filament bulb which is more powerful than the single filament bulbs used in the allegedly defective lights.

Numerous complaints about GMC Sierra headlights not working have been made to websites such as CarComplaints, saying:

โ€œHeadlights are just dim even on high. Have to use fog lights all the time at night and still not all that good.โ€

โ€œBrand new GMC Sierra truck that I am afraid to drive an night. First thought that my eyes suddenly were falling apart or my windshield was tinted, but these headlights are the worst I have ever seen (or more correctly, not seen) on a vehicle.โ€

โ€œI have purchased several new GM vehicles (cars & trucks) but these headlights are the worst on my 2014 Sierra. I had a 1951 Chevy with stronger beams than these. Damn shame at todayโ€™s prices you canโ€™t see the road at night.โ€

โ€œBought this $47,000 truck and it has the worst headlamp output of any vehicle I have ever owned. My wife will not take it out unless absolutely necessary which is ridiculous.โ€

Becerra and Ruella accused GM of violation of Californiaโ€™s Consumer Legal Remedies Act and violation of Californiaโ€™s Unfair Competition Law, as well as breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability pursuant to the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, fraudulent concealment, and unjust enrichment.

I have a 2014 Silverado LTZ with projector lens headlights.
They suck! Hate driving at night.
Is there a lawsuit I can get involved in. I hate to spend hundreds of dollars on after market lights that may or may not work properly.

what about 2007 gmc Sierra 2500hd.

  5. Duane Dansak says:

How do I find out if this settlement has been settled or still on going? I purchased a 2015 and same problem everyone else has can not see on rural roads where I live. Had I purchased this truck at night I would have passed on it because it is such a strain to try to see. Even when high beams are on , on coming traffic does not even flash light to tell you to turn high beams off. So how do I become part of this class action?
