Specialized lawyers are calling out for General Motors (GM) customers, who may have experienced one or more defects in their cars.
Over the years, General Motors has been accused of covering up these defects and prioritizing profits over the well being of their customers.
The defects General Motors allegedly covered up include: defective air bags, defective ignition switches, and power steering failing.
Over two dozen GM models have been affected by these defects including: Buick Lucerne 2006-2011, Cadillac CTS 2003-2014, Chevy Malibu 2000-2005, and more.
Recently a GM ignition switch lawsuit has been filed against General Motors, filed by an Illinois man who had allegedly experienced problems with his 2005 Cadillac CTS.
According to this GM ignition switch lawsuit, the car had been sold prior to the accident reported in the lawsuit and had no warnings of potential defects at the time of sale.
Plaintiff Anthony F. is filing this GM ignition switch lawsuit, after his car reportedly turned off while he was driving.
His car not only shut off, but his air bags allegedly failed to deploy during a frontal impact collision. The accident occurred on Sept. 02, 2014, when he was driving through an intersection.
At this point, Anthony reportedly lost power of his Cadillac CTS and struck a utility pole.
Overview of GM Ignition Switch Lawsuit Allegations
The claims made in the GM ignition switch lawsuit are familiar to specialized auto accident lawyers, as numerous other consumers reported defective ignition switches and failing airbags.
Anthony and other claimants allege the ignition switch would suddenly go into the off position, causing the car to suddenly shutoff and cutting off power to the vehicle’s safety features.
The ignition switches found in 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS and other certain GM vehicles, were allegedly made with inferior materials that made it susceptible to the weight of key chains.
When the defective ignition switches suddenly goes into the off position, the car can suddenly shut off and often inhibits the car’s safety features.
The safety features affected by the alleged defective ignition switches including: power assisted steering, anti lock brakes, and airbag systems.
Even though these safety issues can potentially put consumers’ lives at risk, General Motors allegedly failed to report this problem for over ten years.
Anthony’s GM ignition switch lawsuit alleges General Motors may have known about the defective ignition switches as early as 2001, but failed to warn customers until 2014.
At this time, General Motors had issued a recall to vehicles that may have had the defective ignition switch in their operating systems.
Over 100 deaths have been allegedly linked to the GM ignition switch defect.
Consumers who have purchased GM vehicles as early as 2000, and were hospitalized allegedly due from the ignition switch or some other safety defect may be eligible for compensation.
Potential claimants who have filed police reports or insurance claims should keep copies, as it may help specialized lawyers through the litigation process.
The GM Ignition Switch Lawsuit is Case 1:16-cv-08311-JMF, in the Circuit Court Of Cook County, Illinois County Department Law Division.
In general, GM recall lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
