General Motors Fuel Management Lifter Class Action Lawsuit Overview:
- Who: Owners of certain GM vehicles are suing General Motors LLC.

General Motors knowingly sold vehicles with engines containing a dangerous fault in the fuel management lifter, putting drivers in danger, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiffs Danny Harrison, Christopher McClave, Melissa Luster, Leon Jordan, Daniel Demarest, Mark Hayford, Ronald and Marilyn Jett, and Rebecca Prosser filed the class action lawsuit against General Motors LLC Dec. 15 in a Michigan federal court, alleging the auto giant omitted material facts about faults in its cars.
The plaintiffs are looking to represent anyone who purchased or leased any 2014 to 2021 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicle equipped with a 5.3L, 6.0L or 6.2L V8 engine.
GM made and sold these vehicles without disclosing that their Active Fuel Management lifters (AFM Lifters) were defective in design, the plaintiffs say.
“The Valve Train Defect can leave drivers and passengers in dangerous situations,” they say in the lawsuit. “For example, stalling, losing power while driving and hesitation, especially when trying to merge, increase the risk of a traffic collision.”
If the issue is unremedied for too long, the entire engine can be damaged, necessitating an expensive full engine replacement, the lawsuit alleges.
Plaintiff Claims The Lifter For the No. 3 Cylinder in His GMC Sierra Collapsed
Plaintiff Harrison says he bought a new 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 on Feb. 9, 2021. However, five months later, he was driving his vehicle on a 20-mile-long bridge located 250 miles from his home when the vehicle began to sputter, spit, vibrate, misfire and lose power.
“Plaintiff Harrison was only narrowly able to get the vehicle off the bridge, where he called his local GM authorized dealership, Tameron Buick GMC, for assistance.The lifter for the No. 3 cylinder had collapsed,” the lawsuit says.
It says that when the Valve Train Defect manifests during the warranty period, GM authorizes its dealerships to merely replace the parts that have failed with the same defective versions.
“As a result, the Valve Train Defect manifests again, often outside the warranty period,” according to the lawsuit.
The plaintiffs are suing for breach of warranty and violation of state consumer laws. They’re seeking certification of the class action lawsuit, damages, fees, costs, interest and a jury trial.

I purchased a certified pre owned 2015 Chevy Silverado in 2019. I’ve had multiple issues with the lifters and fuel management system…. I’ve spent nearly $9K in repairs and it’s back in the shop again for the exact same issue. I live in Florida, can I get some advice on this?
I have had my 2021 Silverado Trail Boss back at the dealership twice in previous 6-8 months, due to all cylinders misfiring, causing the check engine light, among others, to come on. The dealership continually told me that nothing was wrong with it, etc. Now it’s at the dealership again with a hole in cylinder #6 caused by lifters on one side. When I asked if they would replace both sides, since I’ve brought it in 3 times now, they said they could only do what was covered by the warranty. My trucks’ warranty runs out in another 450 miles….conveniently enough for them, don’t you think? This problem is beyond ridiculous, especially on a truck that is only 2 years old & has 36,000 miles on it. Any ideas on what I should do and/or how I should proceed??
I had 80,000 mi on my 2014 GMC when the first set of lifters collapsed. I replaced them myself cuz I am a certified technician. The second set broke 6000 mi later and then 3,000 mi later they broke again. I have sunk a little over 6,500 into the truck and finally decided to go another route and had a complete cam kit put in it and delete the DOD. I also had a GM dealership tell me that it was the VLOM plate causing the issue. When I asked what was the cost. She told me well over $800 and it was on back order for 6 months. I could not do it out my truck for that long. That’s why I went with the other route on putting a cam kit and deleting the DOD. Thanks, Lonnie
2015 GMC Sierra cylinder 6 failed. Having engine rebuild for second time because the GM certified parts are not going together properly. Thoroughly disgusted. In addition to $7,000 rebuild it has cost me $5,000 in car metal fees!!!!
my 2017 5.3 litre chevy tahoe with only 50k miles on it has a lifter that has failed causing engine damage
So let me get this straight– GM has known for years that this is an issue. And has instructed service to be done before some trucks were able to be sold… but what about all of the trucks that are still having the issue that they won’t just recall?!
My 2019 Silverado 1500 RST 5.3L L84 is currently sitting at the dealership having the engine torn down (at MY expense) and they’re estimating $3k-$7k in repairs to fix the same issue.
I was loyal to Chevy for many years- owned 5+ Chevy vehicles and this will be the last.
2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV 1st lifters failure happened at 114000 miles in 2022 then it just happened again in February 25th at 150,000 miles and
Cadillac dealership is telling me that the lifter is stuck and that I need a new engine for $12,000 and that I have to wait atleast 12 months because it is on back order… How can I join this lawsuite?

I had collapsed lifters on my 2020 Chevy Trailboss, right at 71000 miles unfortunately my warranty expired at 60000 miles . If I could say luckily i had contracted CarShield as an extended warranty and they covered $2700 out of an $8000 repair, dealer replaced all lifters and camshaft. I am so disappointed with GM. They really need to recall and give people their money back!!
