Walmart, the world’s largest company by revenue, is being faced with a class action lawsuit purportedly stating that the retail giant’s “Rollback” pricing is inaccurately misattributed and deceitful. Specifically, the lawsuit accuses that the company uses false prices to make the impression that consumers are being discounted on alleged “Rollback” discount prices at Walmart, when in fact the supposedly discounted price is the item’s normal retail price.
Walmart is known to offer both online and physical markets for consumers to shop. It also operates as a chain providing grocery stores and discount department stores.
Discount prices at Walmart and its alleged “Rollback” is a marketing strategy. It means that Walmart has “rolled back” the price on a product to its original amount. Previously, an amount for the product that may have been set when the product was first introduced to the market or have been paid for some time ago.
“Rollback” essentially denotes that the product is on sale.
Walmart currently faces a lawsuit brought forth from a woman in California. According to the plaintiff, Brenna C., she alleges that Walmart’s pre-rollback prices do not accurately match the original price for the item.
Allegedly, the discount prices at Walmart are based on arbitrary original, or “Was,” prices. According to the purported allegations, Walmart’s Rollback prices are in fact inaccurately referenced to original prices for the item that had either never existed or that they were not properly attributed to the current market price for the item.
Picture depictions illustrated in the alleged lawsuit show the price tags for the item’s Rollback price and the item’s original store purchase product price. According to the illustrations, there was allegedly no difference between Walmart’s original price and the Rollback price.
Additionally, the item price that is allegedly being sold is higher than the original price tag. Also shown in evidence is a depiction that the alleged “Rollback” price is no different than the item’s purchase price.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff contends that she “saw and relied upon such false representations of ‘was’ prices and discounts when purchasing merchandise at Wal-Mart. Plaintiff would not have made such purchases but for Wal-Mart’s false representations of ‘was’ prices and price discounts,” the lawsuit states.
Discount Prices at Walmart
The lawsuit contends that the plaintiff requests of the company to discontinue its alleged deceptive discount prices at Walmart and “Rollback” price campaign. Additionally, the class action lawsuit is thought to include all individuals who have faced the current purported allegations from April 2013.
The plaintiff requests, “restitution and other equitable remedies, including an injunction under the UCL and FAL; and restitution, damages and an injunction under the CLRA.”
