A Belleville, Il. man says he developed lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure, allegedly as a result of working with asbestos-based materials in his work environment. After working with products made by Ameron International Corporation, Borg-Warner Morse TEC LLC, and General Electric Company, he allegedly developed lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
This asbestos disease lawsuit is being filed by plaintiff couple Marvin S. and Ruby S., alleging Ameron International and the other companies knew about the potential risk of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Marvin reportedly worked with asbestos products on a daily basis while performing his occupational duties, which eventually resulted in the development of asbestos lung cancer.
According to the asbestos disease lawsuit, Marvin worked as a construction manager between 1955 to 2001 and worked with products directly manufactured, distributed, sold, or installed by the companies named in the claim. Marvin was diagnosed with lung cancer on Sept. 27, 2017, and has been contending with the disease.
It is important to note that asbestos lung cancer can take up to 30 years before showing any signs or symptoms, which often results in latent diagnosis and limited treatment options.
Overview of Lung Cancer caused by Asbestos Exposure
Asbestos exposure can lead to deadly diseases like lung cancer or mesothelioma. Approximately 10,000 patients will die from asbestos disease each year in the United States.
Asbestos lung disease is caused when asbestos fibers are inhaled, and then embedded themselves inside the lungs. After a long period of dormancy, the asbestos fibers fester into cancer cells and quickly spread throughout the lungs.
This makes asbestos fibers incredibly dangerous when released into the air, though it is considered harmless if contained in a closed space. Asbestos is often found in a number of buildings built before the 1980s, as well as different construction projects and many areas of the industrial industry.
Before the use of asbestos was significantly restricted in the 1970s and 1980s, it was used by a number of different manufacturing and construction companies in the country. The risk of lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure has been well documented in United States Navy veterans.
Occupational asbestos exposure has also been linked to increased risk of asbestos lung disease, in which patients were exposed in their work environments. Under federal law, companies are required to disclose whether or not their products contain asbestos and provide protective equipment to employees.
Marvin and Ruby allege Ameron International Corp., Borg-Warner Morse TEC LLC, General Electric Co., and other companies failed to warn against potential lung cancer caused by asbestos exposure. The plaintiffs are filing this asbestos lung disease lawsuit seeking multiple counts of negligence and failure to warn, with compensatory damages of over $50,000.
