Roundup lawsuit settlementThe trial for a major Roundup weedkiller lawsuit has reportedly been postponed indefinitely due to ongoing talks of a potential Roundup lawsuit settlement in the works.

Just as the lawsuit was heading to trial—the fourth such lawsuit against Bayer to do so—it was postponed at the last minute in order to allow for serious settlement talks to take place. Notably, Bayer lost the previous three lawsuits to make it to trial, amounting to a substantial $190.5 million collectively in awards.

Had this lawsuit also gone to trial and Bayer lost, the tens of thousands of plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits against Bayer would have had even more ammunition in their arguments for settlement talks with the company, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Experts are estimating a Roundup lawsuit settlement agreement would be in the billions, possibly between $8 billion and $12 billion.

The trial was postponed, Bayer said, “to provide room for the parties to continue the mediation process in good faith…and avoid the distractions that can arise from trials.”

No settlement has been reached yet, however, and there is no guarantee the trial won’t continue at some point. “There is no comprehensive agreement at this time,” said Bayer. “There also is no certainty or timetable for a comprehensive resolution.”

In effect, this means that the Roundup trial will be postponed indefinitely until further notice.

Some of the essential aspects of any settlement agreement going forward will be establishing the conditions for plaintiff compensation in order to determine what the total amount of a settlement might be. Bayer is pushing for a settlement agreement to lay out a way for potential future claims to be handled.

Since Bayer bought Monsanto in 2018, the company has had to deal with thousands of lawsuits over Monsanto’s popular but controversial weedkiller Roundup, which many claim is capable of causing cancer.

In 2015, the World Health Organization found Roundup’s main active ingredient, glyphosate, to be a human carcinogen—that is, capable of causing cancer in humans—though Bayer maintains that glyphosate is safe.

Filing a Roundup Cancer Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer after exposure to Roundup, especially as part of your occupation, you may be able to file a lawsuit and pursue compensation. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by a cancer diagnosis, nor can it bring a loved one back to life, but it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden incurred by medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

Filing a lawsuit can be a daunting prospect, especially while dealing with all of the other problems that come along with a cancer diagnosis, so Top Class Actions has laid the groundwork for you by connecting you with an experienced attorney. Consulting an attorney can help you determine if you have a claim, navigate the complexities of litigation, and maximize your potential compensation.

If you or a loved one developed cancer after using Roundup as a farm worker or home gardener, you may have a legal claim. Legal migrant farm workers may also seek help. Learn more by filling out the form on this page for a FREE case evaluation.
