Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts who have been hurt by IEDs or EFPs provided by bank funded terrorism may be able to join a lawsuit investigation.
Bank Funded Terrorism and IED Injuries
In the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, IEDs and EFPs have been used to injure countless members of the U.S. military. According to the Department of Defense, many of these dangerous and even fatal devices were supplied by Iran, ultimately causing serious injuries and fatalities to U.S. soldiers.
Now members of the U.S. military that have been injured by IEDs and EFPs during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan may be able to file a lawsuit over bank funded terrorism.
This is because even though the U.S. placed sanctions on Iran to prevent the country from getting the money to provide these weapons to enemies of the United States, Iran found a way to circumvent these sanctions. This was done by working with various foreign banks to fund these weapons.
So far, nine such foreign banks have confessed to providing Iran with billions of dollars, admitting to contributing to bank funded terrorism. The provision of this money violated both U.S. and international laws and is considered a criminal conspiracy.
Several banks have already pled guilty to involvement in bank funded terrorism, reaching settlements with the United States. These banks include the HSBC of UK, BNP Paribas of France, and the Commerzbank of Germany.
IEDs and EFPs
Iran reportedly provided a variety of weapons in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, including IEDs and EFPs, after receiving funding from a number of international banks and circumventing U.S. sanctions.
An IED is an Improvised Explosive Device. IEDs are commonly used as roadside bombs, and made up the majority of coalition deaths in the Iraq war—around 63 percent.
EFPs are Explosively Formed Penetrators, which were less common but more dangerous during these wars. The New York Times referred to EFPs as the “most lethal weapon American forces faced in Iraq.” These devices are capable of piercing armor and traveling more than a hundred yards.
Thousands of U.S. military members have lost their lives because of EFP and IED devices. Of course, even more have been seriously injured.
Filing a Bank Funded Terrorism Injury Lawsuit
Under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act, veterans and service members injured, disabled, or killed in the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, and even their family members, may be able to file an anti-terrorism lawsuit against these banks, given that this conspiracy and supply of money may have led to their injuries or even deaths.
Indeed, between 2003 and 2011 thousands of Americans had been either killed or seriously wounded in Iraq, in part due to this criminal conspiracy with Iran. Iranian-sponsored terrorism is now considered the leading cause of American injuries in the Iraq war.
If you are an Iraq or Afghanistan war veteran injured or a family member of one killed by an IED or EFP, you may be able to file a bank funded terrorism lawsuit under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act.
While filing an anti-terrorism lawsuit cannot ever make up for the pain and suffering caused by these kinds of injuries, or bring a loved back to life, it can help to at least alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses, lost wages, and other financial injuries.
If you or a loved one was injured or killed by an IED or EFP while fighting in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, legal recourse is available. Get help now by filling out the form on this page for a FREE case evaluation.
