Meat recall overview:

  • Who: Star Meat Delivery Inc. is recalling more than 83 tons of A&D Foods vacuum-packed raw pork, beef and goat products.
  • Why: The recall was triggered because the meat products were produced without federal inspection and labeled with false USDA inspection marks.
  • Where: The meat recall is effective across the United States.

Star Meat Delivery is recalling 167,639 pounds, approximately 83 tons, of raw meat products, including pork, beef and goat, due to a lack of federal inspection.

The products were falsely labeled with a USDA inspection mark, raising concerns about their safety.

The recall, announced on Sept. 22 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), affects products distributed under the A&D Foods label.

The products, vacuum-sealed in various weights and packed in cardboard boxes, include cuts like goat, ribeye, beef chuck and pork chorizo bearing the false inspection mark “EST. 1363.” Individual consumer packages may not bear this mark if retail stores applied their own labeling.

FSIS surveillance activities uncovered the issue, highlighting the potential risks of consuming products that bypass federal inspection.

“Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk,” the meat recall states.

Consumers urged to discard or return affected meat products

The recalled meats were distributed to retail and restaurant locations across the country, and the FSIS is concerned they may still be in consumer homes or commercial establishments.

The meat recall notice emphasizes that any products bearing the false establishment number “EST. 1363” should be considered unsafe, and retailers and restaurants are urged not to sell or serve the products.

Star Meat Delivery, the distributor of the products, is taking steps to address the issue by notifying its customers and ensuring that the affected products are no longer available for sale.

For more details on the meat recall, consumers can contact Star Meat Delivery at 252-239-0610 or via email at [email protected].

Additionally, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) for food safety questions, and the FSIS website will post retail distribution lists as they become available.

There are no reports of illness related to the meat recall so far. Star Meat Delivery is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Earlier this year, CS Beef Packers issued a recall for more than 22,000 pounds of raw ground beef products due to potential contamination with E. coli O145.
