walmart shopping for gift cardsA recent class action lawsuit claims that Walmart gift cards are tampered with by criminals due to the retailer’s negligence.

Gift card fraud is a serious issue that can affect both retailers and their customers. According to the Walmart class action, scammers will enter stores, remove the security tape found on the back of gift cards, and copy down the gift card number and pin so that they can use it later on.

After the information is copied, scammers reportedly replace the security tape and return gift cards to their original location.

Later, when genuine consumers purchase the Walmart gift cards and load them with money, scammers can use their stolen information to use the gift card funds before actual customers can do so.

Several plaintiffs filed the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit claiming that the retailer leaves their gift cards out where scammers can steal them and fails to sufficiently secure the gift cards’ numbers and PINs. Despite numerous consumer complaints about the issue, Walmart has allegedly failed to fix the issue.

“Consumers have lost millions of dollars that they loaded onto the Gift Cards because Walmart failed to take adequate and reasonable measures to ensure that scammers did not tamper with the Gift Cards and failed to disclose to its customers the material fact that it was possible that the Gift Cards had been tampered with,” the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit states.

As a result, countless consumers have allegedly purchased compromised Walmart gift cards. Some customers may give the gift cards to friends or family members or may attempt to use them themselves but are shocked and embarrassed when their gift card funds are stolen.

Additionally, Walmart allegedly tries to remedy the issue by deactivating gift cards that they think have been tampered with. Although this prevents scammers from using the cards, it reportedly means that authentic customers are unable to use the funds they have loaded onto the cards.

According to the Walmart shoppers, the retail giant also refuses to replace or refund consumers for their unusable gift cards.

“Walmart deactivated thousands of Gift Cards so as to deny Plaintiffs and Class members access to the money loaded onto the card and failed and refused to replace them with a suitable, functioning Gift Card,” the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit claims.

The plaintiffs seek to represent a Class of consumers who purchased compromised Walmart gift cards and had the loaded funds used by a third party or had their gift card deactivated by Walmart prior to use.

The Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit seeks actual damages, statutory damages, exemplary damages, punitive damages, restitution, disgorgement, injunctive relief, declaratory relief, court costs, and attorneys’ fees.

Plaintiffs in the Walmart gift cards class action lawsuit are represented by Donald M. Brown and Craig R. Heidmann of Douglas Haun & Heidmann PC; Q. Byrum Hurst of Hurst Law Group; and E. Powell Miller, Sharon S. Almonrode, Emily E. Hughes, and William Kalas of The Miller Law Firm.

The Walmart Gift Cards Class Action Lawsuit is Foster, et al. v. Walmart Inc., et al., Case No. 4:19-cv-00571-BSM, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Second year in a row my daughters Grandmother sent 30.00 gift card and both years went to use it and 0 funds Again It was purchased on 12/15/24 and funds were removed on 12/17/24 we had not even gotten the card yet. This has caused a lot of emotional distress to the point of never ever shopping Walmart again! This is unacceptable 9115 is an online order that I dont even shop online. Walmart has known about this scam for over 6 years and they still haven’t corrected it. Walmart needs to Pay Up!

Going in 7 years now. Same thing is still happening in 2024. So this 9115 store scam that drains your Walmart gift card balance is real. I’m starting to think Walmart had been denying this is actually happening because Walmart as a whole corporation is store 9115 and stealing from their customers

Just fought this battle today! Had no idea this was happening. I had a Walmart gift card from a return that I had without a receipt. I tried to use the gift card last week but it was denied. I didn’t have time right then to figure it out, so I used another card and headed home. I called the number on card and it said my balance was zero! Impossible! So I headed up to the store to get a print out of the transactions. There were two from store #9115. The lady kept telling me that I used them at that store. I asked her where #9115 was. She went to the back to look it up for me. Meanwhile, I pulled out my phone and Googled the location of store #9115. To my surprise, there were pages of scams and no store #9115 actually existed. The lady returned and we just stared at each other. I said, “There is no 9115 and this is fraud”. She said she saw that. She got the manager and we stepped aside. I explained to the manager about 9115 and all of the scams. Of course, they take no responsibility!! She took my card, my transaction history, my name and phone number (after I took pictures of everything) and said she would send it to their fraud department.

Here’s my question. Since this seems to be going on for at least 6 years, why can’t they deactivate store #9115 in their system? Is that too hard? If these scammers are smart enough to do what they are doing, how hard can it be to deactivate a freakin’ store number in their system??

I told the I bought the card here in Tucson before I drove up to Mesa to visit my sister and took her and my niece to Walmart to get some school supplies for my niece but when I went to pay with the card it said insufficient funds so I had to pay with cash after we got back to the house I told my sister I have to go back to the Walmart store I bought the card from and let them know about it and the I left to be back here in Tucson that night .
Went to Walmart the next day and they told me to notify their fraud department which I did and I have been arguing with them
Walmart doesn’t even have a store #9115 in their chain of stores throughout all the United States
My receipt shows UT was used at store 9115 and they even say I added money to the card . When the card was used at store 9115 I was driving up to Mesa which is a 2 hour drive and I left my house in Tucson at 12 30 pm in the afternoon
