A class action investigation has been launched against General Motors, based on consumer complaints of some 2014 and 2015 GMC Sierra headlights not working properly.
Some consumers say that issues with some 2014 and 2015 GMC Sierra headlights not working properly have lead to dangerous nighttime driving situations. The headlights are reportedly too dim to drive safely at night.
A GMC lawsuit was recently filed as well, with the claimant alleging their GMC Sierra headlights were not working properly and produced too little light in normal driving conditions.
The lawsuit alleges that the headlights of 2014 and 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks are too dim. Owners say these trucks cannot be safely driven at dusk or any time where there is no sunlight.
Plaintiffs Armando Becerra and Gullermo Ruela filed this lawsuit in 2015, alleging they experienced significant problems with their GMC Sierra headlights not working as they should. Both claimants alleged that the headlights were too dim to use at night, and that GMC had known about the problem for years.
Both claimants also allege that GMC Sierra models before 2014 did not have such issues with their headlights, because the car company had started using different bulbs.

According to the lawsuit, the new headlight system consists of one 9012 halogen single filament bulb for both the low and high beams of the headlights. Traditionally, car companies use dual filament bulbs for low and high beams in headlight systems that produces sufficient light beams.
GMC had reportedly used three different bulbs for the headlights in Sierra trucks before the 2014 models, consisting of a H11LL bulb for low beams, a 9005LL bulb for the high beams, and a 5202 bulb for the fog lights. These light bulbs provided sufficient light, which allowed safe travel in the dark.
The GMC lawsuit states the company designed a new headlight system for the GMC Sierra 1500 starting in 2014, which allegedly produced bright beams from the headlights. Becerra and Ruela further allege that General Motors had used a moving shield to alternate between low and high beams from the 9012 bulb, which can be dangerous for drivers at night.
Becerra says he noticed his GMC Sierra headlights not working soon after purchasing his vehicle. Specifically, he says he found that he could not drive at night because the headlights were too dim.
Becerra stated that the dealership was unable to fix the headlight problems, forcing him to buy a whole new headlight assembly system for almost $500.
Ruela, the second plaintiff, reportedly had similar experiences with his 2014 and 2015 GMC Sierra headlights not working. He alleges that he traded his 2014 Sierra for a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 under the assumption that the headlight problem had been fixed in later models. However, this was allegedly not the case and Ruela still had the same issue of his GMC Sierra headlights not working.
The GMC Sierra lawsuit contends that General Motors knew about the issue with 2014 and 2015 GMC Sierra headlights not working when they changed the bulb system, but still sold them to customers. Customers allegedly had no way of knowing that their vehicles were dangerous to drive at night.

3 thoughts onTruck Owners Say GMC Sierra Headlights Not Working
I have a 2014 GMC Sierra and have the same issue with headlights. My truck has had a lot of issues like my heated leather seats don’t work, camera and radio issues. Leaking around satellite antenna above windshield. Have been at the dealership quite a few times. Leather seat heaters have never been fixed and the headlight issue is a major problem for night driving.
What was the outcome of this lawsuit?
Need more info on the lawsuit against gmc for bad headlights in a 2015 gmc sierra. Thanks
