Nearly 10,000 people have been diagnosed with 9/11 cancers, or cancers related to being at or near the World Trade Center ground zero area after the 9/11 attacks.

Those who volunteered their time to help in the recovery efforts after the 9/11 attacks are now at risk for 9/11 cancers and other serious health problems, news sources claim. The Peekskill Daily Voice reports that 9,795 first responders and others are thought to have been diagnosed with 9/11 cancers. This statistic has been noted by the World Trade Center Health Program.

This nearly 10,000 sufferers of 9/11 cancers include first responders, students, downtown workers, and local residents. 9/11 cancers often have a period of time during which they are not active and often show up years after exposure to carcinogenic or toxic substances.

In fact, according to the Peekskill Daily Voice, over 1,700 people have already died from 9/11 related diseases which includes over 400 from 9/11 cancers.

What is Causing 9/11 Cancers?

Years after exposure to the toxins released from the World Trade Center attacks, many people have been diagnosed with 9/11 cancers and other diseases such as respiratory ailments and gastrointestinal problems.

9/11 cancers are reportedly caused by exposure to such toxins as asbestos, lead, mercury, silica, glass, heavy metals, concrete, poisonous gases, oil and other dangerous substances.
