Top Class Actions viewers say they are starting to receive KT Tape class action settlement checks worth as much as $48.51 in the mail.

The KT Tape class action lawsuit alleged that KT Health Inc. falsely advertised so-called “kinesiology tape” as being able to relieve pain and for treatment of athletic injuries.

According to the lead plaintiff Alexander Vuckovic, KT Health used Olympic athletes as spokespeople to deceive consumers into thinking the tape could help with various common athletic injuries, including carpal tunnel, shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis, runner’s knee, and tennis elbow.

The KT tape class action lawsuit alleged the brightly colored tape was marketed as able to withstand wear and tear, including several workouts.

Additionally, alleged the plaintiff, users were deceptively told that they did not have to wind the tape around the injury, rather the tape worked by lifting the skin.

However, alleged the KT tape class action lawsuit, the athletic tape simply did not work as advertised, despite being sold at 10 times the price of regular athletic tape.

In November 2015, the makers of the tape agreed to settle the KT Tape class action lawsuit by paying $5 million. KT Health also agreed to discontinue the way it advertised the athletic tape under the terms of the settlement.

Under the terms of the KT Tape class action settlement, Class Members could receive up to 50 percent of the retail price of the KT Tape products they purchased. The purchases must have been made between Oct. 30, 2011 and Nov. 3, 2017. Further, the KT tape must have been purchased for personal use.

Class Members in the KT Tape class action settlement include those who purchased one of 16 KT tape products during the class period.

While proof of purchase was not necessary to make a claim under the KT Tape class action settlement, Class Members who could furnish proof of purchase could claim up to five products.

“For example, if you submit a claim for the purchase of five packages of KT Tape, you will need to submit proof of purchase for four packages, but will not need to submit proof of purchase for the first package,” the KT Tape class action settlement explained.

KT Tape products ranged from $9.99 to $89.99, according to KT Tape class action settlement.

The deadline to submit a claim in the KT Tape class action settlement was May 16, 2018.
