Essure Birth ControlBayer HealthCare is facing a new Essure birth control injury lawsuit from an Illinois woman, after she allegedly suffered a number of complications from the device.

The woman is seeking legal action in her Essure birth control injury lawsuit against the company for failing to warn her against the defective nature of the device.

Plaintiff Anna C. had opted for the Essure birth control, after reviewing Bayer’s advertisements and going over the decision with her physician.

Furthermore, the warning label of the device indicated that product was perfectly safe and effective for its intended purpose.

Like many other women, Anna had chosen to have the Essure birth control implanted for its convenience and non invasive nature.

The Essure birth control device is currently the only permanent female sterilization method available in the United States, earning Bayer millions and the attention of numerous women who want an alternative to tubal ligation.

Anna had Essure birth control implanted on Aug. 27, 2011 and had it later confirmed that the device was placed properly.

The Essure birth control method consists of two metal coils, one of each placed in each fallopian tube. After several months, the tissue of the fallopian tubes will swell and completely block sperm to egg fertilization.

Even though it was confirmed that the Essure coils were properly placed, Anna soon began to experience severe abdominal pain and menorrhagia.

Due to the complications Anna was suffering from the device, she was forced to undergo a total hysterectomy and laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy to remove the Essure birth control on May 23, 2016.

Overview of Essure Birth Control Injury Lawsuit

Anna is filing this Essure birth control lawsuit against Bayer Healthcare for failing to warn her against the potential side effects of their product. Bayer had allegedly marketed the Essure birth control as a perfectly safe alternative to surgical female sterilization.

While many consider Essure birth control to be a breakthrough contraceptive, it does not exempt the product from injury reports.

Ever since the product was first released in 2002, over 4,500 adverse event reports have been filed regarding Essure birth control complications.

Numerous women have reported various issues from the Essure birth control including: bloating, rashes, allergic reactions, excessive bleeding, organ perforation, pelvic pain, miscarriage, and ectopic pregnancy.

In her Essure birth control lawsuit, Anna states that she never would have had the device implanted if she had known of the risks associated with the Essure birth control.

Anna’s Essure birth control lawsuit is seeking multiple counts of negligence and false advertising, stating that the company either knew or should have known of the defective nature of the device.

This Essure Birth Control Injury Lawsuit is Case No. 3:16-cv-00885, in the U.S. District Court of Southern Illinois.

In general, Essure lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
