What is Roblox?
Roblox is a widely used online gaming platform popular with children, teens and young adults. Rather than offering a single game, Roblox serves as a hub for user-generated content, including interactive games and immersive virtual worlds created by other users.
Millions of players — including children as young as 8 — use Roblox to take part in role-playing adventures, simulations, obstacle courses and competitive multiplayer games.
Roblox also features built-in chat and messaging tools that allow players to communicate with each other in real time. Additionally, the platform integrates with Discord, enabling users to extend their social interactions beyond the game environment.
How child predators exploit Roblox
While Roblox is marketed as a safe place for young people to explore their creativity, many families report a very different experience. A growing number of survivors and parents have come forward with accounts of grooming and sexual exploitation connected to the platform, and these cases often follow a similar pattern:
Initial contact: Predators often target platforms like Roblox that attract large numbers of children and teens. They use in-game chat and messaging features to befriend young users and build trust.
Moving the conversation: After establishing a connection, predators may encourage a child to move to Discord or another messaging app with fewer safety controls. These platforms allow private messaging, image and video sharing and voice or video calls.
Escalating abuse: Once communication moves off Roblox, predators may begin requesting or sharing sexually explicit content. Some use manipulation, threats or bribes to pressure children into sending images or videos.
Luring the child to meet: In some cases, predators try to arrange in-person meetings with children or teens, putting them at risk of physical and sexual harm.
Is Roblox being sued over sexual abuse and exploitation?
As more survivors and families come forward, legal action is now underway. Multiple Roblox sex abuse lawsuits have been filed, alleging that Roblox failed to implement reasonable safety measures to protect children on its platform.
These lawsuits claim that predators used Roblox’s in-game chat, messaging tools and social features to contact, groom and sexually exploit minors.
Matthew Dolman, lead attorney in one of these Roblox lawsuits, commented:
“In allowing apps of these kinds to operate with virtually no restrictions, monitoring or age verification processes in place, we open ‘worlds’ designed for children to depraved individuals with unimaginable intentions and all the resources at their fingertips.”
Are there Roblox settlements for sexual abuse victims?
While dozens of lawsuits have been filed over Roblox sex abuse, no global settlement has been announced at this time. These cases are still in the early stages of litigation, as attorneys continue to gather evidence, interview impacted individuals and build claims against the company.
Because the litigation is ongoing, families and survivors may still be able to come forward and have their cases reviewed as part of these legal actions.
If you believe your child — or you — were targeted or harmed by someone met through Roblox or Discord, completing the confidential form on this page helps ensure your situation is reviewed and included in any Roblox settlements that may be reached in the future.
