Nationstar Mortgage agreed to a $1.5 million class action settlement to resolve claims it charged illegal fees on mortgage loan accounts.

The Nationstar Mortgage settlement benefits a Florida class of borrowers whose mortgage contracts have been or are being serviced by Nationstar acting on behalf of U.S. Bank and for other note or mortgage holders from May 29, 2013, through July 24, 2025, who were charged fees on mortgage loan accounts for process service on unknown spouses and tenants, property maintenance fees, property inspection fees and attorneys’ fees from prior unsuccessful foreclosure actions.

According to a class action lawsuit, Nationstar Mortgage charged fees on mortgage accounts that were not outlined in servicing contracts. The lawsuit claims these mortgage fees violated the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act, the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and breached the company’s mortgage contracts with borrowers.

Nationstar Mortgage, now known as Mr. Cooper, is one of the largest mortgage servicers in the country.

Nationstar has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.5 million class action settlement to resolve these allegations.

Under the terms of the Nationstar Mortgage settlement, class members can receive a cash payment. Each class member will receive a pro rata share of the net settlement fund based on the number and type of fees they paid. Class members can receive up to $300 from the settlement, but exact payments will vary depending on the number of participating class members and the amount deducted for attorneys’ fees and other costs.

The deadline for exclusion is Aug. 17, 2026. The deadline for objection is Aug. 31, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the mortgage fees class action settlement is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Aug. 15, 2026.
