Lawyers are looking for people who need help filing a Hurricane Florence or Hurricane Michael insurance claim.
If your home, property or business suffered damage from Hurricane Florence or Hurricane Michael, you may be eligible to file a hurricane damage insurance claim.
Some policy holders may not be sure that they are being fairly compensated when they file an insurance claim. The process of filing a claim is daunting to many people, but experienced lawyers can help insurance policy holders get the most out of their claim.
Support After Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael
This year, the southern United States has been hit by severe hurricanes. Two of these hurricanes are Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael. These two storms did millions of dollars in damage to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Already, people are filling Hurricane Michael insurance claims to repair damage to homes, property, and infrastructure.
In Albany, Ga., extensive damage was reported. Such was the case in Chehaw, a zoo that is beloved by families and school children, according to the Albany Herald. Now, the community is banding together to try to repair the facilities.
Though there have been major efforts made to repair damage after the hurricanes in a number of states, it feels to many people like an uphill battle. The process of filing an insurance claim is slow for many policyholders, because there is so much demand for insurance help. Without help, property owners may end up waiting much longer than comfortable for recompense.
Experts say that insurance companies are doing the best they can in the wake of Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence. Anthony DuBose, president of Costal Community Insurance Agency in Panama City told The Virginian-Pilot that he felt that “the companies have been good about getting money to homeowners quickly. It’s been better than I thought it would be…” But not all policyholders feel the same.
Insurance policy holders can find themselves waiting a long time to file a Hurricane Florence or Hurricane Michael insurance claim, and an even longer time to receive insurance monies for repairs.
In Florida’s damage areas, for example, contractors reported having to drive to northern Florida for roofing materials. So, while there was not a true shortage of materials throughout the state, many people have had to wait for the materials to be transported from northern Florida to the areas most affected by hurricane damage. Hurricane damage from Florence and Michael will run in the billions to repair.
What To Do When Filing an Insurance Claim for Disasters
Because so many people were affected by the hurricanes, many insurance agents are busy dealing with hundreds of claims. Often, insurance companies send their most experienced agents to the areas with the most severe damage; if you sustained less damage, or if you live in an area that experienced less damage generally, you may have to wait longer to receive help.
In filing insurance for any disaster, whether hurricane, fire or flood, it is important to accurately record all damage done to your property to get the greatest compensation possible. Policyholders should take pictures of all of damage done, whether that be to structures, items, or other property to help accurately record the damage.
Additionally, it is important to not begin to repair damage until after you have filed a claim, so that the damage done by a hurricane, or any other disaster, can be accurately assessed.
