OnlyFans lawsuits accuse the company of bribing Meta employees to place thousands of rival adult performers on a terrorist watchlist as a way to squash its competition in the online pornography industry.
Adult performers filed a group of lawsuits against OnlyFans by adult performers who had their Instagram accounts allegedly falsely tagged as being terrorist content, the New York Post reports.
The adult performers argue having their Instagram accounts flagged as containing terrorist content devastated them financially by preventing them from being able to promote their accounts.
Further, the adult performers claim they were what is known as “shadowbanned” across platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram, among others, the New York Post reports of the OnlyFans lawsuits.
OnlyFans also bribed Meta employees to place other businesses, influencers and celebrities on terrorist watchlists without reason or cause, the adult performers claim.
OnlyFans lawsuits say adult website traffic fell after entertainers allegedly placed on terrorist watchlists
OnlyFans is accused of bribing Meta employees to place the adult performers accounts on a database for accounts linked to terrorism that is run by the nonprofit Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), the New York Post reports.
The purpose of the GIFCT is to prevent terrorist content, such as videos of mass shootings, from being spread across online social media channels.
Performers in the pornography industry argue that traffic to the adult websites they used fell drastically after their accounts were added to the GIFCT’s list while traffic to OnlyFans — and subsequent profits — took off.
“We are aware that these cases have been filed. We are not aware of any evidence which supports these allegations,” OnlyFans says in a statement to the New York Post. “The alleged participants have all publicly stated that these cases have no merit.”
In related news, OnlyFans and Meta are currently seeking the dismissal of a class action lawsuit accusing the companies of working together to reduce the social media visibility of adult performers who don’t work with OnlyFans as a way of forcing them to do so.
