Consumers who purchased Walmart glucosamine joint supplements may have purchased a product that was mislabeled in violation of consumer protection laws.

Many people with knee pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions turn to glucosamine supplements to help ease their joint pain.

Although the effectiveness of glucosamine is unclear, studies have shown that glucosamine sulfate may be the most effective form of glucosamine for people with osteoarthritis and some types of knee pain, according to RxList.

Consumers are often willing to pay a higher price for joint supplements that contain glucosamine sulfate. Attorneys are looking into claims that Walmart misrepresented one of its Spring Valley joint supplements as containing glucosamine sulfate when it actually contained glucosamine hydrochloride.

Which Walmart Glucosamine Joint Supplements Are Allegedly Mislabeled?

The allegedly mislabeled Walmart glucosamine joint supplements are sold under the Spring Valley brand with a label indicating they contain 1,000 mg of glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride per tablet.

This joint supplement has been challenged by a Walmart glucosamine lawsuit that claims the product does not contain any glucosamine sulfate despite the clear representation on the product label.

According to the glucosamine supplements class action lawsuit, laboratory testing of the Spring Valley glucosamine sulfate supplements did not detect glucosamine sulfate in any of the pills that were tested. Instead, the presence of glucosamine hydrochloride was detected.

The plaintiff asserts she specifically selected joint supplements she believed contained glucosamine sulfate because she had been told that it was more effective than glucosamine hydrochloride.

She says she would not have purchased the Spring Valley joint supplements if she had known they contained glucosamine hydrochloride instead of glucosamine sulfate.

Is Mislabeling Joint Supplements Illegal?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) can take action against companies that make false and misleading claims about dietary supplements.
