Nut recalls overview: 

  • Who: Planters, Gibson Farms, John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Whitley’s Peanut Factory and Trader Joe’s parent company Wenders have issued nut-related recalls this year. 
  • Why: The recalls revolve around concerns involving potential bacterial contamination and undeclared allergens. 
  • Where: The nut recalls affect consumers in certain states and/or nationwide. 

Companies have issued several recalls involving nut products this year. The recalls were  initiated over bacterial contamination and undeclared allergen concerns. 

A food company may choose to recall a product in the event they determine it could pose a health risk to consumers. 

Planters recalls pair of nut products over listeria concerns

Planters issued a recall for two lots of Honey Roasted Peanuts and Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts earlier this month over concerns the products may have been exposed to listeria. 

The recall involves nuts that were sent by Planters to Publix and Dollar Tree distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, and South Carolina and Georgia, respectively. 

Planters said no illnesses have been reported to it in connection with the recall. Consumers are advised to return the recalled nut products to receive a full refund. 

Gibson Farms recalls shelled walnuts over concerns they were contaminated with E.coli 

Gibson Farms issued a recall for two lots of its Organic Light Halves and Pieces shelled walnuts in late April over concerns the walnuts may have been contaminated with E. coli. 

The recall involves Organic Light Halves and Pieces shelled walnuts containing the lot codes 3325-043 and 3341-501 and expiration dates of May 21, 2025, and June 7, 2025. The recalled walnuts were sold to distributors in California and Washington. 

Gibson Farms said it has been notified of 12 reports of illnesses allegedly linked to consumption of the recalled walnuts. Consignees are advised to hold and discontinue selling existing stock of the recalled walnuts. 

Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews recalled over undeclared  milk, coconut

John B. Sanfilippo & Son issued a recall for a limited amount of 8.25-ounce Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews in March over concerns the product poses an allergy risk with undeclared coconut and milk. 

The recall involves Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews distributed to stores in 30 U.S. states and through Walmart’s website. 

The snack food company said it has not received any reports of a consumer suffering an allergic reaction in connection with the recall. Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled cashews and to return them to Walmart to receive a refund. 

Trader Joe’s parent recalls 50% sodium cashews over concerns of potential salmonella contamination

Trader Joe’s parent company issued a recall for several lots of 50% sodium cashews in March over concerns they may have been contaminated with salmonella. 

The recall involves Trader Joe’s Nuts, 50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews with the SKU No. 37884 and the lot Nos. T12139, T12140, T12141 and T1214. The recalled cashews were distributed to Trader Joe’s stores in 16 U.S. states. 

Wenders, the parent company of Trader Joe’s, said it has not received any reports of illness in connection with the recall. Consumers are advised to stop eating the recalled cashews and to return them to their place of purchase for a refund. 

Whitley’s Peanut Factory recalls nut mix over undeclared allergen concerns

Whitley’s Peanut Factory issued a recall for certain lots of its 12oz Deluxe Nut Mix in January over concerns the product contained undeclared allergens in peanuts, milk, soy, wheat and sesame. 

The recall involves Whitley’s 12oz Deluxe Nut Mix containing the lot codes MFG 22823, MFG 25023, MFG 25823, MFG 29323 and MFG 35623. The recalled nut mix was distributed to retail and wholesale customers nationwide between the weeks of Aug. 21, 2023, and Jan. 10, 2024.

Whitley’s said it has not received any reports of illness in connection with the recall. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled nut mix and to contact its customer service to receive a refund.

      Be careful in Virginia with these recalls!!! I reached out to planters nuts to let them know my dad got listeria from eating their nuts and they claim that it didn’t happen in virginia which I complete bs!!!! Anyone in virginia be advised that listeria from their nuts did happen and they are lying if they say it didn’t!!!
