IKEA, Prem Meats, Jetson Electric Bikes, Michelin, Chrysler top recalls overview:

  • Who: IKEA, Prem Meats, Jetson Electric Bikes, Michelin and Chrysler all recalled products this week.
  • Why: These top recalls revolve around product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States; the IKEA and Michelin recalls are also active in Canada.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls last week for products that may pose injury to consumers.

IKEA recalls Blavingad fishing games due to choking hazard

IKEA recalled 27,000 Blavingad fishing games after it found they posed a choking hazard to children. The recall, which was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on April 6, applies to about 25,000 of the games sold in the United States and 2,200 sold in Canada.

The ocean-themed fishing game consists of two wooden fishing lines with string and magnets to attract wooden play pieces with metal rivets. IKEA received four incident reports of a small metal rivet within the wooden play piece coming loose and detaching from the toy, although no injuries have been reported so far.

IKEA sold the Blavingad games at IKEA stores and online at IKEA.com from October 2022 through March 2023 for about $15. Consumers should immediately stop using the recall product and contact IKEA for a full refund.

Prem Meats recalls pork, beef products that escaped inspection

Wisconsin meat market Prem Meats issued a Class I recall for some of its packaged pork and beef products over concerns they were produced without an approved formula and without having been inspected.

Packaged pork and beef products included in the recall are Prem Meats’ bacon-wrapped pork loin, bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin and pork squealers, all of which are sold in one or two pieces in vacuum-sealed packages at the Prairie du Sac retail store.

There have been no illnesses reported yet, but consumers should discard any of the recalled products.

Jetson Electric Bikes self-balancing scooters, hoverboards recalled

On March 30, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published a recall for about 53,000 42-volt Jetson Rogue hoverboards after two sisters died.

According to the recall, the lithium-ion battery packs in the hoverboards can overheat, posing a fire hazard. This was the case when a 10-year-old girl and her 15-year-old sister died from a fire on April 1, 2022. There have been multiple reports of the recalled hoverboards burning, sparking or melting.

Consumers should immediately stop using and stop charging the recalled 42-volt version of the self-balancing hoverboards and contact Jetson for a full refund.

Michelin issues recall on snow tires that don’t meet traction requirements

Michelin recalled replacement snow tires after it found they didn’t meet traction requirements. The recall applies to Michelin Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires in sizes 185/60R15C, 195/75R16C, 205/65R15C, 205/75R16C, 225/75R16C and 235/65R16C.

According to the recall, these tires are marked with the Alpine symbol but do not meet the traction requirements for snow tires. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139.

Michelin recommends all consumers exchange their tires while it works on a remedy it will include in an owner notification letter in early June.

RAM pickup trucks recalled due to powertrain issue

On April 13, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website published a recall for 131,700 RAM 1500 pickup trucks manufactured in 2021. The 2021 RAM 1500s equipped with 5.7L eTorque engines have a powertrain software issue.

The powertrain control module software may cause an incorrect fuel mixture condition in the engine and result in an engine stall. Chrysler (FCA US) is aware of one accident and no injuries related to the issue.

FCA US will reimburse owners who paid to repair the problem. It requests that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment for confirmation of the expense.
