Nikola Corp. has issued a recall on 364 of its semi trucks from model years 2022-2024 due to a parking brake issue.

The Nikola truck recall, posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said that the truck’s parking brake can fail to engage due to an issue with the Bendix Intellipark Tractor Park Valve Module, which can become stuck in the “un-parked” position. In vehicles with the defect, drivers may notice that pulling on the truck’s parking brake switch will not trigger parking brake indicator LEDs and the usual airbrake exhaust sound will not be heard.

The recalled trucks include those produced between Nov. 5, 2021 and April 5, 2023 that have VINs between 1N9ABB1A6N2393001 and 1N9ABB1A5N2393040, between 1N9APB1A4N2393001 and 1N9APB1A2N2393188, between 1N9APB1A0P2393189 and 1N9APB1AXP2393264, and between 1N9APB1A8R2393265 and 1N9APB1A9R2393324.

Production of new trucks has been stopped until new corrected parts are available from Bendix.

Affected truck owners will be notified of the recall starting May 1

Nikola Corp. says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Vehicle owners and dealers will be notified of the recall starting May 1. All trucks will be fixed with a corrected part at no charge to the owner.

Nikola Corp. is at 4141 E. Broadway Drive in Phoenix and can be reached at 630-808-4531. Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems is at 35500 Chester Road in Avon, Ohio.
