Scenic Fruit Co., Ford, IKEA, Sunbeam, Honda top recalls overview:

  • Who: Scenic Fruit Co., Ford, IKEA, Sunbeam and Honda recalled their respective products this week.
  • Why: These top recalls revolve around product safety and possible risk of harm.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in the United States; the IKEA and Sunbeam recalls are also active in Canada.

Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced top recalls last week for products that may pose injury to consumers.

Frozen organic strawberries under various brand names recalled

On March 17, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website published a recall that applies to Scenic Fruit Co. frozen organic strawberries sold under multiple brands names. The strawberries were sold at Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood and PCC Community Markets, and the frozen organic tropical blends were sold to Trader Joe’s.

The company initiated the recall due to an outbreak of hepatitis A illnesses. Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that results from exposure to the hepatitis A virus, including from food, the strawberry and tropical blend recall states. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious illness lasting several months. In rare cases, particularly in consumers who have a pre-existing severe illness or are immune-compromised, hepatitis A infection can progress to liver failure.

Consumers who have purchased the product should destroy or return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Ford recalls 1.28M Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models due to brake fluid leak

Ford issued a recall via the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) website on more than 1.28 million of its Fusion and MKZ vehicles, model years 2013-2018.

According to the recall, a ruptured hose can cause a significant brake fluid leak in some Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles stretching several model years. Ford says the recalled vehicles have front brake jounce hoses that can rupture prematurely and cause the brake fluid to leak substantially over time. The leak can reduce the brake pedal’s responsiveness and slow deceleration, increasing the risk of crash, the Ford recall report states. An estimated 2% of the 1.28 million vehicles carry the defect, the report says.

Owners can expect to receive instructions for next steps by mail between April 17-28. They will need to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for free hose replacement.

IKEA recalls Lettan mirrors due to potential breakage, laceration hazard

About 22,400 IKEA Lettan mirrors sold in the United States and 22,400 sold in Canada were recalled as the mirror can fall, posing a laceration hazard.

The mirror attachment to the wall contains plastic fittings that may break and cause the mirror to fall, creating a risk of laceration for consumers. IKEA received a total of 55 incident reports from different parts of the world. One of these reports highlights that the plastic fittings came loose, resulting in the mirror falling from the wall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mirrors and contact IKEA to order a free set of replacement wall fittings and instructions.

Sunbeam heated blankets recalled due to overheating risk

On March 16, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published a recall that applies to about 43,000 Sunbeam queen-size heated blankets with model number 32810027 sold in the United States and about 15,000 sold in Canada. The recall was made after Sunbeam received 13 reports of the blankets overheating.

Consumers should complete the online recall registration form and destroy the blanket by cutting the power cord at the plug, marking an “X” with permanent marker on the wash label and sending the company a photo of the destroyed blanket

Honda recalls multiple SUVs, light vehicles due to seatbelt defect

More than 448,000 Honda SUVs and light vehicles were recalled as the driver and passenger seatbelts may not latch correctly. The recalled models are the 2017-2020 Honda CR-V, 2018-2019 Honda Accord, 2018-2019 Honda Accord Hybrid, 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey, 2019-2020 Acura RDX and 2019 Honda Insight.

The seat belt buckle channel for the driver and front passenger seat belts was “manufactured out of specification,” causing interference between the buckle channel and the release button. The buckle channel surface coating may deteriorate over time, and the release button may shrink against the channel at low temperatures, increasing friction.

Owners of the recalled vehicles can expect contact by mail around April 17 with instructions to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer for a free seat belt buckle assembly replacement.

Please add me. The last recall they had I went to the dealership in Rome with a 8:30 appt and waited all day with no service. They waited on all walk in customers but never fixed my recall problem.
