The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted a recall March 9 for 3.2 million of Epoch Everlasting Play’s Calico Critters animal figures sold with bottle and pacifier accessories. The company initiated the recall after two reported deaths of babies who choked on the accessories.
The fatal incidents involved a 2-year-old in New Mexico in 2018 and a 9-month-old in Japan in 2015. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall.
Consumers who purchased Calico Critters animal figures should take the recalled bottle and pacifier accessories away from children immediately and contact Epoch Everlasting Play LLC for instructions on how to submit a photo of the recalled bottle and/or pacifier accessory along with contact information and confirmation of destruction to receive a free replacement accessory.
Stratford Care USA recalls Omega-3 pet supplements due to potential Vitamin A toxicity
On March 10, the Food and Drug Administration website posted a recall for multiple brands of Stratford Care USA Omega-2 supplements for cats and dogs. The recalled supplements have potentially elevated levels of Vitamin A, which has led to dogs exhibiting signs of Vitamin A toxicity.
Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for dogs; however, ingestion of elevated levels can lead to health issues depending on the level of Vitamin A and the length of exposure
The white plastic container containing 60 soft gels states “lot 31133 EXP 04/13/23” and “lot 30837 EXP 10/26/22” on the bottom. Pet owners who purchased the supplement are asked to immediately stop using it and throw it away in a container where no other animals, including wildlife, can access and consume it.
