  • Where: The heated blanket recall is active in the United States.

Bedshe International recalled about 350,000 Bedsure electric heating blankets and pads as they pose a fire and burn hazard with 137 reports of the products catching fire so far, and 17 people burned.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published the recall March 9.

According to the company, the controller for the electric heating blankets and pads can malfunction, posing fire and thermal burn hazards.

So far, Bedshe received 137 reports of the blankets and pads catching fire, burning, melting and overheating in consumer homes, causing minor property damage, according to the heated blanket recall. These include 17 reports of burn injuries, including one report of second-degree burns.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The recall applies to Bedsure electric heating blankets models in throw, twin and full sizes made of flannel and/or sherpa in sizes 50-by-60-inch, 62-by-84-inch and 72-by-84-inch and Bedsure electric heating pads in sizes 12-by-24-inch, 24-by-22-inch and 24-by-33-inch in brown, gray and teal.

Immediately stop using recalled Bedsure electric blankets, pads, recall warns

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric heating blankets and pads and contact Bedshe for a full refund, the company says.

Consumers must submit photos following the instructions provided at www.safety.bedsurehome.com to receive their refund. The company is contacting all known purchasers, the heated blanket recall says.

The products were sold online at Amazon.com and BedsureHome.com from Aug. 2022 through Nov. 2022 for between $25 and $110.

The affected model numbers can be seen on the recall notice. Consumers can find the model numbers on a white label on the back of the blankets and heating pads and back of the controller. They are also available on the consumer’s Orders History page.

Last year, a number of heated blankets and mattresses were recalled nationwide due to potential fire hazards.

In those recalls, one company also received three reports of the blankets overheating, including one report of a burn to a consumer’s wrist and one consumer seeing flames.
